Facts is Brian Flores didn’t have the temperament for the trade. There’s more to being a head coach than just scheming defense. He has to manage everything and delegate well. Brian Flores has already shown he can’t do that.

Sean McVey disciples have a better track record of success. So, there is your facts.

I'd be OK with hiring Flores.

I think he really breathed life into the D when he was here.

And Tomlin did already vouch for him when we hired him...maybe Rooney will look at that in a similar light as when Dungy vouched for Tomlin.

I saw the same horrible 3rd down defense when he was in Pittsburgh. This team needs to clear out the Mike Tomlin era of coaches. Danny Smith as an except is fine but anyone else should go. I’m a huge supporter of a head coach hiring the guys he wants.

Hell Brian Flores D gave up 24 points to us, a team he spent the year with , and should have known.

    I think this makes sense.

IMO, he's the "safe" choice for us.

Just like Grimm and Wizenhunt were.

Doesn't mean that he'll be hired. But I think he's the guy we'll try to hire if we don't like the young up and comers we're interviewing.

Brian Flores' defense is playing golf rn... Chris Shula's defense is preparing for the NFCCG.

I don't care whose defense is "better". I want the right coach for the job. We're not hiring Shula or Flores to be the DC. We're hiring them to do HC things... like lead the organization for the next 10+ years (hopefully), hire the coordinators, install a system... It is interesting to see the differences though. The Vikings had a really good pass defense and a below average run defense. The Rams had an above average run defense and a below average pass defense. The Rams were a top 5 turnover creation team, the Vikings were above average. Both teams were good pressure and sack teams, while the Rams were among the leagues best in having few missed tackles while the Vikings were below average with more missed tackles. I think it is important to realize that the Vikings spent the 6th most in the league on defense this year ($98 million), while the Rams spend the 3rd fewest ($48 million).

The Vikings had a good unit and spent money like they should have a good unit. The Rams had an above average unit while spending an amount of money that suggested that they shouldn't have had a good defensive unit.

Again, I don't care whose defense was better (as it is hard to compare apples to apple in personnel, money spent, etc.). What I care about is hiring the right LEADER to lead this team moving forward. I don't know any more than the next fan, but my opinion leans more towards Shula if we go with a defensive hire. I really like the two offensive minds that we had interviews with. Kubiak and Scheelhaase are definitely good options too.

Yes, as a DC, i wouldn’t mind that. But I think someone is gonna hire him.

if the Steelers weren’t so loyal, maybe take a shot but the Steelers do not fire their coaches. If he ends up like Tomlin, I’ll kill myself. Another 20 years of the ****show of the last 15 years would melt brains.

    Yes.
Giving him the benefit of the doubt
No way is there anyone on our staff that qualifies to be our new HC

I'd also prefer him as DC to HC.

But I think hiring a guy as a coordinator that you were interviewing for HC seems like it might lead to bad blood.

Its where I think he fits best... Though he would make more sense if we hired and offensive mind. If he coaches a scheme different than what our defensive minded HC hire does, there might be other options that are better. Minter, Shula, and Evero are Fangio-based. Flores would be a better fit at DC if we hired Anthony Weaver as our coach as their defensive philosophies are different. Hafley would be the only one to run a unique system to the other defensive minded interviewees.

My guess is that they will go with whoever they think is the best leader. Not the best Xs and Os guy.

At least that's what I think they did the two times they hired a coach in my lifetime (born '79).
