Excellent hire. He will contribute as a coach. It looks like we will be relying heavily on the D to carry us to success in 2022. The only question will be how he and Minka will get along.

Question...Flores was the HC at Miami when they shipped out Minkah,Who in turn claimed he was played out of position and complained about the culture and concept that Flores built...

    Any concerns?

Very strange.... how do you go from a HC to a positional coach in months? He might be a good hire or he might be a distraction..... considering he may have significant time tied up in his lawsuit.

I'm cautiously excited, so I guess only time will tell how it goes. Maybe they groom him to take over for Tomlin some day? Seems like a bold move by the Rooney's considering his lawsuit is against the NFL as a whole, right?

I don't know, maybe Minkah knew ownership wanted to tank? Maybe that is why he wanted out?

Well we kinda saw this happening. If you are suing your employer and airing dirty laundry you won't be hired as a HC anytime soon.

The way I see this going is he winds up being a positional coach or coordinator for a number of years, or maybe goes to college ranks as a HC, before he gets another head coach shot in NFL. It may take awhile, but ultimately I think he does get another HC shot.

He won't be interviewed by media as positional coach, so I don't think he will be a distraction. He can focus on just football.

Regardless of law suits or whatever this is a great hire. Don’t forget this guy was D coordinator for the Pats under BB for one of their super bowl runs.

    I stand corrected:

“long-time assistant Matt Patricia left to become the new head coach of the Detroit Lions, and Flores would take over the Patriots' defensive playcalling duties, but was not given the title of defensive coordinator”

Maybe the man has some validity to some of his claims?

My first thought would be different situations and the difference between being a position coach vs a head coach. If Minkah has a problem with him my guess is he will deal directly with Austin and Tomlin and not engage with anyone else.

No he did not, Flores missed the playoff for 3 straight seasons and got fired after that

I believe I saw Minkah say that Flores is Bush's coach, not mines.

No I'm absolutely shocked and did not see this coming. Even with the lawsuit which no way does the league blackball him over it since it's kinda what the suit is about, I thought he was on a couple of teams short list for HC

Yep, you’re right. I was misremembering a win and in game with a (then) 10-5 record as a loss in the wild card round

I agree exactly...Now, He has a shot...Everyone will be watching, see how it plays out with the Steelers AND the League...

Time heals all wounds...Let the dust settle, so to speak...There are SO many who did worse ( Vick killed Dogs for Gods sake ) and got a second chance...

Flores WILL get a second chance...It just might take a couple years

I like the hire but just not the position. Feel as though he should have been the new DC but it seems the Steelers really like to promote from within their own ranks. Maybe 2 or 3 years down the road he takes over those duties or perhaps just moves on to some other team. I just hope he leaves his baggage in Miami.

    Good hire
I’m guessing not DC because he’ll be gone next year hired as HC somewhere .
Better stability if Austin is DC and stays DC

I doubt any team will hire Flores as head coach due to the lawsuit
