Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think Brown or Woods make it to the PS. Especially with the lack of quality play league wide among WRs.

Kaboly talks out of his ass a lot. I think sometimes he makes stuff up in his head and reports it.

I think one thing that those guys might have working against them is they don't have the benefit of being on the field with Ben. I mean I don't think Landry or JPW are gonna be making superstars out of anyone anytime soon. I wonder if that's working against them.

I would be pretty pissed if they did that again this year. One injury and we would be in a pickle again trying to sign an over the hill vet and force feeding him the play book.

There's little chance of signing 6 IMO, but 5 wouldn't surprise me.
I don't know...JD Woods looked like a secret star during the Giants game.

Yeah I thought he looked awesome too but I hope we keep it a "secret". LOL.

I would eliminate JDW (although I like him) and insert JB. You can't coach size and if he has a decent skill set to go along with it, which it appears he does, all the better. We need another RZ threat and JB fits the bill. His size will land him on the 53. I just hope we can sneak JDW onto the PS and I'm not sure we shouldn't consider him over JC.

I haven't watched enough of the other preseason games to gauge how much of a secret star our back up receivers are looking. Presumably we aren't the only team who have some promising looking reserve players making splash plays. It's just that highlight reels for preseason only tend to show the 3 plays that the starters are in for (hate the way NFL.com does that).

I seem to remember a similar discussion to this happening a few years back with another position - my memory is awful, so can't remember much more than we were all petrified of them going on the PS, and then absolutely nobody claimed them.

It's different this year with the lack of WRs around, but I think we need to see one or two more games before we get worried about Woods getting snapped up immediately.

And on the original question - I would hate for us to do what we did last year and go with 4. Unless we are getting our RBs much more involved in the passing game - and even then I would still be dubious about the risk.

Perhaps instead I would go with 5 OL, as it seems out back ups are the level of any guy on the street, so if a starter went down Tomlin could simply drive around Pittsburgh until he saw a fat guy.

JB isn't that explosive by his 4.6 forty and 30.5 vertical.. may have trouble separating at the leagues level will see more in the next pre's. You really think they will separate The love affair between JC & Ben plus the kids need a pappy close to them right now! :smiley1:

I agree and so does dave bryan at times.

as for JB not being explosive enough, BS, i'm claiming. we threw a 20 yard pass last game by design. there is a need for possession receivers too. especially in this type of offense.

hines ward wasn't a blazer either and if I remember right he was pretty good. no way they go into the season with just 4. there are special teams to play too.

the TE spot is going to throw a clinker in all this though. I just can't fathom spaeth being worthy of holding a spot we need and losing a good young prospect.

I'm going with JB considering he already has moved up the depth chart and woods hasn't. I think we have a much better chance of putting woods on the PS.

It would be a mistake to carry 4. Out of the receivers we have in camp two will get picked up

i'd think woods and moye both may go to the PS. a lot may depend on the punt returner. shaw may show some prowess at that spot, well at least until wheaton made that run at camp Friday. this game should be critical for several guys.

No truer words have been spoken. Hines indeed did not have blazing speed. What he brought to the game was something rarely seen. A WR with linebacking characteristics. We need someone like HW .. No fear.

Most of our receivers including past ( wallace) and present hear footsteps.. Afraid the outcome of a catch in the middle. Plexiglass comes to mind as well

    Bman ( I approve this message )

I'd sure like to see the rest of this fools 53-man roster if anyone can locate it.
Hell, he probably has us keeping like 6 RB's or 4 QB's.

Oh yeah ... keeping both Batch and Dwyer. Yet thinking that J.Brown and JD.Woods will safely make it to the practice squad. This guy is brilliant ... as a comedian !!! ROFLMFAO :roflmao:

I don't think so, but ... let's take this 3rd/4th string QB competition taken to he next level. How about for the entire 2nd half of the Redskins game we let both L.Jones and JPW run strictly a hurry-up/fast-passed/shotgun/4-wide receiver set offense for each of their quarters? :applaud:

It might do wonders for clearing up the QB and Reciever competition, as well as get some likely much needed shotgun reps for the backup centers.

you have to have returners. guy used to handling the ball. that is a very good role for the 5th wr as well as spot duty in the 5 wide sets. you know our short yardage set. LOL:lolol:

I would be in total favor of that as it would keep the ball away from Baron Batch. LOL.
