Thanks for posting that. I read that he was mostly a back up and special teams guy for Cincy. I've been busy today and didn't hear that Lyons was released. Apparently, he was battling a leg injury in OTA's?

Too bad. I didn't really expect him to make the roster, but I expected him to make it through the preseason and be in the last round of cuts at least.

I suppose Johnson is just competition, because I don't see us carrying 9 LBs into a game. But who knows, maybe we will.

Stevenson Slyvester better watch his back. Johnson could be good enough to take his spot.

He's a former special teams captain. Maybe they're hoping he can be the new Keyaron Fox. Similar pattern. I doubt they're looking at him to start, either this year or any other year.

Johnson is not just camp fodder....he will beat out Sly...so unless they keep 9 or have Johnson as both inside and out backup....Sly is in trouble.

    Brandon Johnson....16 career starts 3 INT's

    Willie Gay....37 career starts 3 INT's

    :roflmao:
I know this means nothing....I just liked seeing it.

I can see them keeping 9 on the 53 man roster. I think Sly sticks around another year. This will be his make or break season. That will be tough to do from the bench, but he has no choice. I don't see them starting anyone over Foote, probably including Hightower if we'd taken him.

    Typo or old age? :hmmm:

LB is another position where camp is going to be exceptionally interesting. What I'm genuinely surprised about is how much they've bigged up Foote and his ability to call the plays. I don't put too much stock in what he did at the Lions - the Steelers D is built around LBers, so it's more on how they perform here (Thaddeus Gibson, anyone?). It's rather that there must be better guys there, or at least those who might challenge him for the starting role. Heck, I'm still rooting for Mortly Ivy to make the big break this season. So why have all this stuff about Foote taking over Farrior's role?

Or is this similar to how there was an announcement about what the o-line would have Decastro and Adams, then when minicamp started it was different?

Living in Cincy I've seen this guy quite a bit. Keyaron Fox is probably a good comparison like someone else said (though I dunno if Fox did much before he got here).

Very solid against the run (though not as much of a thumper as Fox), and probably better than Fox in coverage. Johnson was the guy that filled in whenever Keith Rivers was hurt (which was often), and a lot of people here in Cincy thought he was better than Rivers.

I would've assumed he'd be an ILB in our system, but I heard he was playing outside so far at OTA's. He would be nice to have though because he could probably play all 4 positions.

i think with worilds sitting out because of his wrist, is why he's working on the outside. he may be that tweener guy ,a going where we need him guy. i think carter was the only serious backup on the outside.

sylvester is hurt ,but better get well quickly. spence is moving around on the inside. hicks was mentioned too. i haven't heard much about ivy or mcfadden. foote looks healthy but he don't weigh near what he used to.

i like the johnson move, because i don't think they are sold on the OLB backup situation just yet. harrison has been out too. they need body's already.

Haha, my bad. By "into a game" I meant the active 45 man roster. So I could see us keeping 9 on the 53 man, and deactivating one for the games (Chris Carter?).
