I guess he won't be winning a super bowl, that distinction is reserved for players of the Pittsburgh Steelers

Figured it would be a one year deal. Not a huge loss if we can draft somebody good early in the draft. Gay Cockrell and Golson seem to be the guys getting the nod as starters. Grant and a rookie as back ups with the sincere hope that our rookie progresses enough to start taking some snaps from Cockrell as the year goes on.

There's always a chance we grab someone after the cuts or someone at camp impresses enough to grab a 6th CB spot.

He was benched in order for the worst cb in the league to start nearly every game. When he did get a start or two he showed much better ability than the guy he was riding the pine for. Then he was benched again for the incompetent one. Obviously MT and Boykin did not get off on the right foot. It's either that or MT was told to limit the snap counts to preserve a 5th round pick instead of giving up the 4th round one. Either way, I'm sure Brandon is glad to be gone. I know I would be in a similar situation.

I think most people here are of the understanding that the Steelers felt that Boykin can only play in the slot. Now I'm not saying he could or could not play on the outside, just that the Steelers felt he could only play the slot.
As much as people complained about Jarvis Jones were people calling for Sean Spence or Vince Williams to play the outside linebacker position?

In the Steelers eyes regardless of how bad Blake was playing it had nothing to do with Boykin getting more playing time.

Again I'm not saying it was right or wrong, just the way the Steelers felt about the situation.

Fact is, two teams have now given up on Boykin. Something going on with him, he either has an attitude problem or just not as good as fans think. For a guy who has barely played, he has been built up to mythical proportions.

Oh we know what they felt about it, but it was clearly wrong to keep playing an injured guy that couldn't even tackle.

I understand that, but that's the point. Just because Blake stunk doesn't mean Boykin steps in for him. Even when Boykin did play they slid Gay outside and Boykin played the slot.
Boykin couldn't get a sniff outside in Philly either.

I think it was as simple as he just wasn't that great. He may have had a bit of an attitude because of his lack of playing time that may have cost him more playing time. That's just a guess though.

No big loss IMO, that's why they drafted Golson to play the slot.

I agree that fans think that Boykin is good. Eagles fans loved him and were sorry to see him go, Steelers fans liked him and were sorry to see him go, and Panthers fans are happy to be getting him.

Nice signing by Gettleman. One of the best GMs in the league up there with Colbert.

Good luck to Boykin. I hope he kills it on that great D and earns a good contract.

The word here in N.C. is they think this kid is a great slot CB and may be able to play on the outside as well . So we will see what he is made of soon enough and we will know just how big of a mistake our staff made or didn't make. I am leaning heavy to the huge mistake side both in not playing him or giving him a chance on the outside ..

I believe what I see on Sunday on the field. So from that perspective, boykins, cockrell, and gay was clearly a better trio then with Blake on the field period. We all know this..even the opposing qb's knew this. There is nothing to justify why you put an inferior player out on the field when you had a better choice on your team. Why pick up a guy that you don't plan on using, a waste of money, time, and a draft pick.

With coach Tomlin being a prior db coach and coach lakes playing the position and now coaching....you would think our secondary would be the best in the league. Poor evaluation and teaching at that position has had us inferior

I think the kid can play and I hope he does well and make MT say wtf was I doing. With that said we have Gay, Golson and Cockrell so there was no place now for Boykin. I am hoping for a stud like Alexander,Apple or Fuller in round one to throw into this mix and maybe become the #1 guy we been looking for. Good luck BB not sure what the deal was here but when you were out there you played well......

You can only 'coach 'em up' so much if the talent level is lousy.

Putting the situation aside of him getting on the field, when he did the crap for secondary seemed to tighten up. He made plays, offered a spark. I am just elated that piece of garbage Blake is no longer in Black and Gold. Thank you Art II for speaking out...

I don't post often on this board so I'm probably way out of line saying this....

I am honestly having a hard time understanding the sentiment of rooting for a player's success that went to another team just to have an "I told you so" moment at the expense of your team/coach. I don't understand what happened with the Boykin situation but I'm rooting that our coaches and GM are currently making the correct decision.

Yeah, we are so close to doing something special that we all hope that management figures it out this year.

Well let me explain it to you, first I don't think anyone has stuck up for our coach/management more the myself in the last few weeks. I am not looking for the "I told ya so" moment, I am looking for the fix my secondary moment. And Boykin added that last year when he was on the field which wasn't a lot. Why was that, for some unknown reason MT didn't play him....fine but why waste a draft pick. my frustration is we had a guy, our secondary sucked and we wasted a draft pick.

Also I am hoping he does well cause I have a ton of eagle fans who I razzed the crap out of when we traded for him and bragged how good he was and guess what I haven't heard the end of it. He isn't going to an AFC team so what do I care ya know?

OK so both corners that we all sorta fussed over this year are gone. So let's start it right here. Who has a better upcoming season? Blake or Boykin? I'm going Boykin because there will be more chances for him to get after the ball since so many people will probably try to avoid Norman. I also am going with Boykin because Blake is one of the worst football players that has ever started for the Steelers. Here's the scary thing though. IF Blake is better on the outside than Boykin then just think about that for a moment.... I mean can it even be POSSIBLE???
