I think it's a case of degenerative secondary, meaning a no. 4 CB being asked to fill the no.1 role.

Things will be different this year...

whats really shocking is we gave up a draft pick and our dr.s didn't catch this. we also trotted blake out there every week and a one legged guy still was better than most of the secondary. he was also a guy our DB coach pushed to get on the field.

When I first read the story, I assumed Lake was taking the piss a bit.

Did you ever take the time to think it was early enough into the injury that it wouldn't show up in their medical tests?

Speaking from personal experience, yes it is quite possible it did not show up on the medical tests. It is also unlikely Boykin didn't know when he signed the contract. Especially when he signed with Carolina.

Since Blake and Boykin play different positions within the secondary I don't see what Blakes struggles have to do with Boykin.

Not really, mistakes happen or could be like others have said, was too soon to show up in tests.

Our DB coach also said you need to give a unit time to mesh together and build trust among each other. They tried making Blake a starter and gave it a chance to work. It didn't and they ended up moving Gay to get Boykin on the field. Something they didn't want to do.

Boykin wasn't the second coming of Woodson, he did ok, he played better than Blake, not setting the bar very high there.

Bottom line, you, me and certainly not the armchair GM I was referring to, know how to run this team better. Especially in situations like that, where we don't even have all the information.

Well he looked like a better CB than a lot that we had playing, not sure if his health affected his play or his playing time , but at least he tried to battle the injury and hone his craft . I wish him the best as he moves forward with his life's work.

Maybe he could be a coach or something. He obviously has a love for the game.

as it said in the article , philly cut him because of it and our doctors didn't pick it up. it wasn't that early in the injury. it was a degenerative condition not really just something that happened one day on the field.

Very true . He wants to be on the field and was always willing to step up and try and play, so yes that type of attitude would be rewarded as a Coach.
