Could the Steelers not have afforded him at 10 million a year?? Maybe it was the 5 years, I assume, that other teams were unsure about, but that seems pretty reasonable for a guy of his talent.

They could have. We have money to move around if we want. For instance we can make watts 20 million turned into a signing bonus.

So it comes down to we didn't want to.

Well that sucks...he and Myles Jack would have been a nice tandem and that would have made Devin Bush expendable (which he is anyway imo). I've now missed out on three of my four free agent wishes and Rams got two of them in Robinson and Wagner (...honestly think Robinson has seen enough of Trubisky tho), C. Patterson...only the honey badger is left.

I think the Steelers would shy away from giving a LB at Wagner's age a 5 year deal. We signed a much younger Jack to a good contract and are going to give Bush essentially a one year prove-it shot that he can turn around his performance last year coming off his injury to show he can be the guy he was pre-injury and not the guy he was post-injury. It comes down to we probably didn't want him anyways, but certainly didn't want him for that term.

I actually think Wagner on a 5 year 50 mil deal would've been bad. We have to lock up Minkah and DJ here soon and we cant be spending their money on a guy that will start his 5 year deal as a 32 year old ILB.

We were never going to be heavy spenders at WR. Patterson and Wagner weren't good fits. Still think we have a shot at Honey Badger though. Depending on term I would be cool with that signing.

The Steelers weren't going to give a contract like that to a 32 year old Wagner.

Apples to apples, he would have signed with the Rams to extract vengeance on his old team twice a year

Why would they want him? He's 31. Jack is entering his prime and is cheaper.

I guess, but it always seems like other teams play be different free agency rules than the Steelers.

I believe it comes down 2 three things.
    1. They are hoping Bush reverts back in the direction He was heading before His injury, and...
    2. They will not admit 2 a mistake on Bush if He doesn't, and bringing in Wagner....with Jack would be admitting this.
So they basically have this year 2 prove they are still correct on Bush.
    3. Wagner is old.
    Sorry that's all I got.

Von Miller says "Hold my Beer"... talk about a crazy contract.

Bush needs to do a 180 and I wouldn't be surprised if they take an ILB somewhere in the draft.

These proven stud players are getting paid and I believe that the Honey Badger is holding for a mega deal which will be his last.

A strong safety is a priority in the draft as well as receiver and possibly a Nose/DE depending what the Mystery Man Tuitt will do.

Or he had no interest in playing here

And lets be honest its not a 5 year deal... probably a 2 or 3 at most its just for book keeping

That may be all you got, but it's pretty good in my eyes :).

Your point 2 is EXACTLY why I don't want them drafting a quarterback outside of Day 3 this year. Granted, that's because I don't think any of them are going to eventually be great NFL quarterbacks - although I could be wrong. But assuming I'm right, that would mean that if Trubiscuit shows them this year that he's never going to be good enough, AND they actually have the opportunity next offseason to get a guy I think is/will be a great NFL quarterback, I just don't see them using premium resources (huge free agent/trade compensation or another Day 1 draft pick) to get him just one year after investing huge resources in a guy this year.

Once again, I could be wrong, but I think they'd let the opportunity pass, and I'll likely be dead before any more great quarterback play occurs in the Black and Gold :noose: (we need an old geezer emoji, by the way).

Allen had two 1,000 yard seasons playing with Mitch.

I think Bush can have a breakout season playing along side Jack and under Foles tutelage plus a year removed from surgery. Once they brought in Jack, I never thought Wagner would be in play anymore.

I think you are on the right track. Coming off that type of injury I personally think it would be wrong to just cut and run. They made and investment in moving up, right or wrong and have to see it through. This year is pivotal for Bush. They have supplied a very decent partner on the other side, step it up or he likely will not see the 5th year option. If Jack balls out they invest in him. If both ball out they still have time to make a decision.
