I should have written this in the last post, but if we are going to move to a 4/3 at some point, THIS offseason is the year to do it.

Our Dline I could see as a strength. Heyward, Worilds, Woodley, Carter and Robinson as DE. Ta'amu, Hood, and McLendon as DT. Add 1 more DT and this group looks very, very good. Those ends are going to get pressure and Hood might actually be able to do something next to Ta'amu and Woodley or Heyward in a 4/3.

We are going to need to get some talent at LB this draft either way. Timmons and Spence will be fine as weak side LBs. We need a run stopper in the middle and someone to play the strong side. Unfortunately that means we end up with 2 young, young LBs, but I am okay with that.

This draft IMO will be D, D and more D assuming Mendenhall and Wallace are re-signed.

this could be why cam heyward and mclendon have done nothing. they don't play them. how can you say they are non-existant when they can barely get on the field? cam has played well when he's in there.

why casey hampton is getting so much playing time is beyond me. mclendon, Moo and heyward are on the sidelines. this has to change.

there's no sense in larry foote playing that many plays.

    golden never saw the field.

will allen went in only to get hurt.( if it's not that it's a penalty)

    brandon johnson saw no action.

    neither did robinson.

i just think we need to keep up a good rotation of this younger talent.

i think DL is afraid to put these young guys in because they might mess up. well right now the veterans that are in there might not be messing up, but they arent good enough anymore to make plays. i would rather see them lose with young guys trying to make plays, than with old guys who cant make any plays.

Heyward definitely needs to play many snaps IMHO. Either Hood or Keisel needs to sit.....

I'm just curious to know what makes you say that Spence will be fine? I'm just saying that I don't know how we can evaluate how good he will be when we've only seen him the preseason.

Honestly I'm not sure Spence is ever coming back from that injury.....looked pretty devastating to me....but hey, I'm not a doctor.....

I was just saying in a 4/3 defense as a backup weak side LB, I think he would okay in that role for us. Who knows maybe Sylvester makes better sense there. I dont' know. I do know that we need to upgrade the LB position overall. When Foote is the player playing best at a position...you know you have a problem.

I agree. You'd think they'd at least wanna NOT get shown up by the old guy. Have a little pride for crying out loud.

Amen brother,I have been saying this for years.NE, GB and other teams
play rookies all the time. why would you not give some of these players I mentioned
in my post some playing time? WHY.

lets face it not only DLB but kevin butler is that way. spence threw him for a loop though. your not gonna play til your ready with these guys. it goes deeper though.

carnell is a young coach. he has young players. let's start at safety. he's got two of the best in clark and troy. they haven't been on the field together yet. when it's only troy it's different, troy is not the qb of the defense back there. clark is. clark/ mundy combo is nothing like the clark/troy combo.
now, let's add lewis. never been a starter. has been questioned if he's it all along. again young at half the field at cb. the backups are even younger.

all those things DLB has to account for young coach/young safety and different combos/young backups. that is the backfield.

LB... timmons and then foote in the middle. they know the most. are not the best combo, but veteran. sylvester the next backup has been out, butler haden't played him because they missed ota,s and mini camp last year. he wasen't ready and farrior was still here. no field time. this year he did have those in year 3 when it usually pops for guys. BAM an injury.

spence opened butlers eye's a little. they were planning on doing some coverage changes with him. BAM down goes spence. johnson has been trying to crame OLB and ILB into his short time here, and he should get better. until then they are not going to change the two guys that know the most about this defense timmons/foote. DLB knows this. he'll keep a less athletic but more knowlegdable duo in the middle with the young secondary.

OLB... again DLB knows he's young at this spot. worilds was hurt. carter was the next guy with any time. don't forget he missed ota's and mini camp last year along with worilds. no james harrison on the other side. the other guys not ready yet.

DL... casey, keisel are your vets. ziggy is not aaron smith. ziggy is however the next oldest guy that's seen starting duty.

DLB has young players on the field at near every position or i should say level of the defense. i'm not sure he trusts them out there without as many vet players as he can get with them. DB- mundy, lewis, young backups, young coach. ILB vet, with 1 not ready backup. DL.. not nearly as good as the past casey and keisel are vets. mclendons lack of field time stumps me though.

butler and DLB will stay with as many vets as they can get on the field thinking it will cover up some of our youth at different levels of this defense. i think brandon johnson has to get into the fold more and i think he will as we go forward. he's learning 3 spots minimum until sly is ready. troy and sly being back will solidify what they do with johnson and troy and clark together again will do wonders with putting in younger OLB's and CB's and NT's and DE's. it's all gotta work in unison. injuries have hurt us bad right now.

Gregg LLoyd blew out both his knees his first 2 seasons and came back to have a wonderful (IMPACTFUL) career
    as a Pgh Steeler.

I'm telling you...McClain is ripe for the taking...there is 3 threads...and one has 4 pages that all have things like this on it over on the Raiders board

They are screaming that they hope he goes to prison...and wondering what that means for his dead cap space.

If the Steelers were to trade for him before their next game...he would cost them $788,125 for the rest of this season......then they would have the rights to him for $4.005 million in 2013, $5.805 million in 2014, $2.665 million in 2015

Larry Foote is making 3 mill this year...and is a FA next

The Raiders would save about 13 mill overall on him.....he only costs $585,000 more to move him..than keep him next year....

He is under performing... Raiders want to free up the long term cap space...and not deal with his off the field problems......

McClain would excel back in the 3-4 IMO...and under the Steelers coaching....Guy was the man in Alabama...and I think he can be again.

He could be had for very little right now IMO....

Guy has 24 tackles on the year...9 against us....He was at 16 before todays game....and that would have put him at #2 on the Steelers behind Footes 23.

Nothing but upside to this move...he doesn't work...you cut him and owe him nothing but what is most likely a late round draft pick.
