boy the 49'ers are glad they had a young guy in the pipeline 4-5 years out behind their franchise guy. hmmmm. insanity i say. what a waste of a draft pick. a guy in the 4th round? no way he's worth even having around. oh wait, what was my point? lefty made one game and a loss. charlie's up at 37 years old, then we will have one of those vets with a weeks work behind him. i'm feeling better already.

Kaepernick was drafted 36th overall....a 2nd round pick...and was not brought in to groom...he was brought in to start....Then Alex Smith got a 2nd wind with the new coach.

Would you have taken Kaepernick over Heyward? Thats what it would have taken.

i have no problem with the Steelers using a mid round pick on a qb, but lets no get confused on the 49ers situation at qb and the Steelers. the Steelers have one of the top qbs in the NFL and he is just hitting his prime years. the 49ers have a guy that very few have confidence in and is on the brink of being replaced every week it seems.

so for the 49ers to use early or even mid round picks on qbs is fine. the Steelers should be looking for a established vet for a backup not a project.

Well in a game where a backup started for both teams, someone had to win  Besides, all Lefty did was score in 2 plays before he got hurt. Veteran backup is still the way to go. Draft picks are too valuable to waste on a player who may or may not see the field and then hope they have what it takes. And since when does one game make a player a success? It was his first start, lets see how well he does when there is some film on the guy.

we have alot of draft picks that may or may not see the field every year. why is the qb spot so different? why are they trying out kafka? he is not a vet with starting expierience. yes lefty did score in two plays and broke two ribs untouched. last year he slid dow untouched and broke his arm. now we have one qb that knows anything about our system, while we are trying to make a run at the playoffs. you will never convince me that we shouldn't have had a young guy on the PS. draft pick or not. there were some good qb's that have been in the last 3 drafts. cousins has stepped in and played. kapernick has stepped in and played. mallet was given reps while NE sat brady when the score was out of reach, giving him expierience under fire. yet we sit here and hope our vets make it through the first series without breaking a hip. johnson should have been put on the PS a week ago. i think they are dropping the ball on this. i don't expect there to be many eating your crow dinner either TE. we waste draft picks all the time on spots less important then qb.

and hack, i'm not saying we should have gotten kapernick either. so no need to throw heyward, who rarely sees the field the last two years up. i'm saying alot of teams that have franchise qb's still use a draft pick to find backup qb's. there are all kind of backups out there with expirience too. why didn't those teams just sign one of them? why waste a draft pick? grooming a guy to become a backup is really not that far fetched. it's smart.

Our backup QB's are not good. Plain and simple. Someone call AARP to come pick up Charlie and put Lefty out to pasture. Time to draft Ben's replacement.

Agree here. Look what Patriots, 49ers, Redskins and Packers have done. If anything, we could trade the backup quarterback away for picks.

The Cliff Stoudt experiment was ages ago. We need a young backup even if he sits for the next 4-5 years. If anything, we trade him for future picks. the Patriots stock picks like no other.
