After the Bills game in the preseason, we were led to believe the Steelers had something special going this year - after all, our 1s handled the Bills 1s pretty handily, But after yesterday... I've always backed Mike Tomlin, but he lost me yesterday. His teams have been competitive in my opinion but that no longer appears to be the case. I usually feel melancholy after a Steelers loss, but I was straight up angry yesterday! Tomlin said change is coming, but we all know that's just more fools gold, there won't be any significant change until "after" the season is over. What a dumpster fire!

May I ask why yesterday's game was the tipping point? It was no better or worse than many other letdowns in the Tomlin era imo.

People forget the beat down we got by the Eagles in 2016 with our HOF QB and All Pro RB and WR. And one of the best O-lines in the NFL.

I like Tomlin and still do, but if the season continues down this path he is played out. I just do not think he lights any fires with players anymore and he doesn't want to score points and prefers low scoring games. The culmination of all the lazy unprepared effort is apparent and you cannot sugar coat things anymore. Many former players are bashing the offense which I have never seen them to do before. People are fed up.

Previously they would always say need mobile qb so a lot of people were fooled that Ben was washed and we needed a lamar esque QB despite watching 44 yr old tom brady still win. There is no more saying we need this or we need that..they picked their 1st round qb who is mobile and we have an all time bad offense

I don't I was there and my boss in my ear since he's an Eagles guy. We have underperformed for years and I'm just surprised how long its taken people to really understand that in comparison to the talent that was on the team. Does anybody believe that if BB was our coach during Ben's prime we wouldn't have made it to a few more Super Bowls. Our coaching combined with our players underperformed.

Mike is a nice guy and I liked listening to him on Footbahlin but as a Coach if you don't mind me asking what is it that you like about him? Nobody really wants to work for a tough boss, but a tough boss is what is needed many times to get the best out of the employees/team. Some of Michael Jordans teammates hated how he treated them but it was a single minded pursuit of winning and they experienced the results, the journey sucked at times but the destination was awesome!!

Basically what you said. I used to think he got the most out of his players years ago and then the past 5 or so years injuries, players retiring early, players choosing not to play due to family issues, etc I gave him a slight pass and thought with some of the teams he overachieved but now I'm souring on all that. I'm a homer and support all steelers and root for them regardless just like I assume most of us do. I'd love for them to turn it around and contend, but the trend is coming out flat and sh!tting the bed in big moments and being close to Philly it feels like Andy Reid to me not that Tomlin would go elsewhere and be successful because I do not see that happening at all.

I actually think Tomlin would be successful if he walks into a ready made veteran loaded team, like he did with Pittsburgh. Otherwise starting from scratch and trying to build a championship team I don't think his approach will work. You gotta have the talent no doubt but then the coaching in key games is big. How you scheme to take an opponent down and how you adjust to what they are trying to take away from you is big. I just don't think he's an attention to detail guy and runs to loose a locker room.

Well, they humiliated us with a rookie QB, first year HC, and a supposed ragtag Oline

And too many points by the opposing team and...a head coach who oversees it all.

Good point, but the only All-pro playing that day was Ben and Brown. No running game at all. But, Potatoes Patatoes, your point is not lost, and is still valid. All teams lay and egg every once and a while. The good teams either still squeak out a win or don't make the same mistakes twice, three times, or over and over again.

But has it? I know plenty on here (myself included) who had doubts even back then. Guess I'm wondering who here are part of the masses to t'ake so long to really understand'.

    Maybe I'm mistaken.

Hell, I think if Cowher would have stayed on we would have more.

Not wanting to reignite this old debate, but Cowher had plenty of talent and was labelled an underachiever in his time here. His last season here was frustrating as hell to watch, and from reports the locker room was not a great place.

So maybe we would, maybe we wouldn't. But Cowher's time had come, just as Tomlin's did a few seasons back.
