Gilbert is 2 inches taller and ran a 4.37 at the combine, Grant ran a slow 4.5. The media said the Steelers didn't think he had the straight line speed to play CB.

I think Smith was good. Douchette ruined him. Find the 1st interview Smith did with him about the guarantee beating the *pats. Douchette pieced that together
Smith never said Yeah to that question. His answer was yeah, IF WE DO ALL THE THINGS WE WERE TAUGHT we can beat them. Douchy posted, going to win? Yeah Douchy left off the IF WE DO ALL THE THINGS WE WERE TAUGHT we can beat them. and Oh by the way. Wasn't Smith on the packer team beat us in the SB ?

I can't remember if he was on that team or not but what's funny is that about 2 weeks after that Pats game he got benched and when Tomlin was asked why he said "Because he can't keep the ball in front of him..." I wish someone would have shown him some film on Blake a little earlier last year. LOL!

    Completely, this.

I remember Brady running up to him after they scored to mock him. Evidently he'd got really fired up by the comments of a rookie back up, like you'd expect of a future HOFer.

    Classy guy, that Brady.

grant ran a 4.44 and has run as low as 4.37. gilbert is an inch and 7/8 taller big whoop. it also has nothing to do with one vs the other. it has to do with the steelers giving up on good draft picks way to early when we are very thin at that spot. we can use all the help we can get. they had absolutely nothing to lose by putting grant on the PS for another year especially when we don't know what we are getting with gilbert and we have golson that hasn't been through 5 practices in two years total. if gay or cockrell get dinged up early we are in deep chit.

Interesting that you mention Cockrell as a strength here.

A guy that the Steelers liked before the draft, that they couldn't get, who seems to have been given up on early by the team that took him and apparently is one of the stronger assets on the Steelers in the position of need now.

Pretty similar to another guy they just traded for.

I'm not worried about the CB prospects they have, I'm more worried about why they have so many RB's on this roster and still looking at others.

i like cockrell, he's smart and not a problem child. i hope like heck gilbert works out but cockrell didn't come with the baggage of gilbert. they liked grant too, enough to draft him in the 4th round. i just hate that they gave up this early. 5 corners deep is not a bad thing and then add two guys (grant and davis) that can play safety and corner are a good thing on a team especially if you are trying to build that section of your team up. trust me i like where we are going but with golson being in the position he's in and gilbert very new and a wild card, it just doesn't make sense to me and could leave a huge void with an injury.

To bad, after watching him play at Ohio State I thought he had a real chance to stick with the Steelers.

If Grant was that fast the media wouldn't have kept bringing it up about his lack of straight line speed, Grant also blew some assignments in the preseason.

    His combine #s were 4.44 40, 33 vert and 4.31 20 shuttle.

That's not slow but not a burner either. Standing 5'10" his scouting report suggested he was too short to play outside and while he was quick they felt like he wouldn't be able to keep up with fast outside WR. It had him pegged as a slot corner/safety because of his size, solid hands, solid tackling technique and run supporter and actually played press coverage in college well.

I'm now supposing he was cut because we upgraded him with Davis. Just my ever evolving opinion..........

I think we drafted him with some type of hope that he could play outside or make the move to Safety ...It was worth a shot some smaller guys can play outside, I just don't think he ever showed he could ? I would also speculate they tried him at Safety in practice at some point or gave him a chalk board test and he just didn't show enough to invest the time...

This would put him right back in the slot CB spot where we have a bunch of guys that can play...So my take was we needed a outside CB or a Future Safety and he just didn't look like he would work out..

Do you know how many 5 star athletes/ future nfl players play on Ohio States defenses? They fly to the ball.

And I can remember...our whole defense
Leaving him out there to be victimized. Instead of rallying around him and proving that our defense, that were ranked #1at the time, wasn't just #1 on paper.
