Report I saw had Ben and Haley wanting to spike it and Tomlin overruled them both.

I believe this is just a slight difference in wording and last second clock management. Clock was running, ben wanted to clock it.... on 3rd down.... so with no timeouts remaining, you're forced to kick the FG (or give the D equal time to setup for the last offensive play). Running a play on 3rd down was the best option rather than just wasting a play of a clocking of the ball. It was a split second decision that unfortunately could have been handled better (like calling two plays in the previous huddle). I think "blame" is a strong word, ben lost track of the down and the coaches wanted him to run "a" play, not necessarily that play.

I wasn't specifically talking about you not watching the game. I was agreeing with the other person that you didn't even here the interview yet were making a thread.

I was just going off what Ben said after the game. I guess I don't exactly know who made the call. Either way it led to confusion and a messed up play.

    Link please !!!

Also , making a better throw is wrong.... has to be thrown away...

Still sounds like he's laying blame with the coaches

Wasn't it 3rd down????? This is why the coaches were saying not to clock it cause then we wouldn't of had a down to go for it but just kick the FG. Ben is saying one thing but the situation was calling for another. Most here will know I would never side with Tomlin/Haley over Ben but this time I will.

Romo, like most things, had this dead on: He said, "Oh no, not a slant, too many defenders in the middle of the field. It should have been a fade."

Romo is nails as a commentator.

My thoughts exactly. Once again poor preparation by all involved HC, OC, Ben, Receivers. This type of situation has to be practiced and practiced.

Yep, when they did the Jesse James review, plenty of time to get 2 of your best plays ready.

Absolutely. The Steelers should have had TWO plays called so that there was no ambiguity when Ben walked up to the line. It's the little things like that that separate the Pats from the the Steelers.

Are we sure that it isn't? In that kind of moment, a play can be botched even if practiced.

Correct play call (imo) was a corner fade to Bryant, where only he could get it, so no chance for an int. If it misses, kick the FG.

Ben always blames others it’s super annoying and not becoming of a leader. Yes he took fault after he said he wanted to spike it but was told not to! Threw coaches under the bus. Man up and say we play to win and I fed up!

Let’s see if we get the 2 seed. Jax isn’t a good matchup for us but if Ben can’t out QB Blake Fing Bortles in Pittsburgh then........

    Me too.

Think of it this way - Ben throws it away on 3rd, as some of you suggest. 4th down, we kick the FG to TIE it. There's :25 left. The Pats get the ball - do you not think for an instant that the first play is a 45-yarder up the gut to Gronk to get them in FG range - and they win anyway?

Absolutely the right call. As some have said, the issue wasn't there - the issue was the sudden conservative BS that we pulled on the previous drive. We put ourselves in position to lose.

so the JJ debacle happens at .28 seconds. DHB tackled at around .22 seconds, my question is why didn't we line up after the DHB catch, regroup, and run an ACTUAL PLAY, not a fake spike. Ben snapped it at .9 seconds. If no one open, throw it into the stands and kick fg on 4th. Sorry if this was mentioned already.

The route he ran was fine. The problem was the rest of the team wasn't playing because Ben had communicated to them that he was clocking it. Most of the players were not ready for a play. There was absolutely no preparation there whatsoever. The coaches and Ben were not on the same page at all. Clocking there would be just stupid. There was tons of time left to run another play, so why give up on the win and settle for OT? Ben should not have indicated he was going to clock it. It caused a ton of confusion and resulted in our guys not playing, except for Eli. The throw to DHB was dumb too. It accomplished nothing.

Because we have a QB, who is physically gifted, but is at times a mental midget. He wanted to clock it and that's exactly what he was going to do until he was told to run a play. Unfortunately most of the guys believed he was going to clock it so they weren't ready for a play. Our clock management skills came back to bite us in the ass. Both Tomlin and Ben suck at clock management and it showed.

Agree w all. I think my point is similar to a lot of folks. Have 2 plays called, especially w all the time used on the JJ debacle. Be ready in case it's overturned w 2 plays, w no fake spike in mix. .28 seconds is plenty of time to run 2 actual plays from the 10 yard line

I'm bad at wording my thoughts. Clocking it shouldn't even be in the mix. The mentality should be running 2 plays. Even if the 2 nd down play is tackled in bounds.
