WOW... This doesn`t sound good, is about the understatement of the year, but it`s all I can think of.
I am sitting here, in shock.
I had heard about it being a shoulder injury of some sort, then heard on the local news, about the rib part of it.
Was hoping they were mis-informed, being a Cleveland station, and all...
But I get to the board, and it`s confirmed...
This sounds SERIOUS, folks... like the remainder of the season, and possibly his career, IMHO.
I mean, really, if a rib gets pushed out of position seriously enuff to possibly puncture his aorta, does it EVER heal well enuff for that not to be a concern?!?
What a *****, when we had finally gotten around to doing something about limiting the hits he was taking, and had been fairly decent about that, for this to happen!
    I am just in disbelief...
I hope he can heal up and come back next year, if not sooner, but if it comes down to a chance of putting his life on the line...
Well, Thanx for the Superbowls you did get us, Superman.:matrix:
I know every player is literally taking a chance with their life by playing this game, but there`s a difference between the odds of taking a lethal blow on the field, on a freak play, when you are healthy, and going out there, with an injury like this...
He has shown us time and time again, how tough he is, the pain he will play thru, etc...
But risking his life, is just ridiculous. More than any fan should expect.
I hope I am blowing this out of proportion, and his rib can completely heal over time, and let him get back on the field, but right now, I am wondering if we have seen his last play.
Prayin` for ya, Ben. Get well, and lead us back to the promised land, again!(However long that may take):praying::steelflag:

I think saying his career may be over is a little premature, don't you? Look at Danny Amendola.

Deep breath Bleed, it heals, career isn't in jeopardy. His life is at risk if he were to go and play this week. I say he will be back for the playoffs, we just have to manage to get another 4 wins without him, I think with the way the AFC is, we can squeak in with 10 wins.

that could be a whole thread itself TE. will he be effective enough to step right in and play in the playoffs should we squeak in? i'm not saying i wouldn't want him to, but if we do well enough with our 2 veteran backups capable of winning, would ben be the way they go if he's maybe ok to play? will it be to fresh in bens mind at that point with a new son to boot. will he be to rusty with the rest of this going on?

just some questions they may think about, i'd say. byron and charlie getting more reps will start to look much better than last week. they are capable of winning. we are actually blessed with two former starting vets behind ben. i dunno. we will see though. i hope ben is able by then but if it's close at all, i'd rather he sit til next year i think.[IMG]

I hope they prove me wrong but I'm afraid you would have to morph Lefty and Charlie into one person to get anything that resembles a decent QB at this point. If they do prove me wrong I will be the first one here to tell you how I need to pull my head out of my four corner contact.

CNN's front page this morning: http://tracking.si.com/2012/11/14/roethlisbergers-injury-could-kill-him/?hpt=hp_t4

While Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was expected to miss time with a shoulder injury, a rib injury he also suffered on Monday night against the Chiefs is currently of even greater concern.
The rib injury is “rare and dangerous,” according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, and could potentially be life-threatening.
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter Ed Bouchette described just how serious the problem is:

#Steelers Ben Roethlisberger has a rare rib injury that could kill him by pressing against his aorta. Too big risk. Has to wait until heals

#Steelers Roethlisberger said today it's so rare that the last time dr. told him it occurred was with rugby player in 1998

Roethlisberger said that on a scale of one to 10, the pain he is experiencing is at nine, according to NFL Network’s Aditi Kinkhabwala. Ten-year veteran Byron Leftwich, who has posted a 57.9 quarterback rating over four seasons with the Steelers, will start in his place on Sunday night in Pittsburgh.
Roethlisberger was enjoying one of the best regular seasons of his nine-year career, having thrown 17 touchdowns compared to just four interceptions.

Prayers for Ben. I hope he'll be OK not just because he's our QB but because he's soon to be a father. Some good news, I just read that Mendy should be back Sunday so we'll have all 3 of our RBs. Lefty shouldn't have problem handing the ball off to them....

Im in no way trying to downplay Bens injury so dont bash. Does anyone have any links to a official statement on Bens rib injury. I was listening to The Fan in Ny and they were making fun of Ben and the whole aorta comment. I know rib injuries are serious and a cracked rib does have potential dangers involved.

Im sure physical contact would pose a serious threat but I think the proper rest would go a long way in assuring his return to normal activity. On The Fan they also alluded to Coach T acting a little quizical about Bens comments about his rib puncturing his aorta......whats the deal?

Who would that be? The 2 clowns in the early am who think they are Howard Stern of sports radio? Boomer and Carson are the biggest waste of air time IMO, and if they were indeed making fun of the aorta comment then they are fools. Ben didn't make the diagnosis, he was just repeating what he was told by the doctors. His top rib is dislocated, that rib can puncture his aorta, it's a very serious injury.
