I was having a fun beef with a dude I work with who claims Bettis was often hurt or ill or some other nonsense against the Ravens and claims he thinks he was afraid of Ray Lewis. Now, Of course I had to disagree on principle but didn't have any data to support or deny.

Anyone have a good spot to research his numbers against them AND have an opinion in the matter that might be less than expected?

The Ravens became a team the same year that Bettis came to Pittsburgh so that works well.

I've remember hearing Ray Lewis say that trying to tackle Bettis was like trying to tackle an Oak tree, and that he was the hardest back to bring down.

Just tell him that Bettis was just protecting himself from possibly being stabbed.

I believe there is a highlight out there of Bettis using the old truck stick on Ray. Check YouTube.

Bettis hardly had great games against the Ravens... I can only recall a few. I do remember that much, thank goodness Lewis and Nagta are gone.

He did miss what looks like 6 games vs Baltimore. He had some great games and some poor games. Per NFL stats.

Hahahaha... I did!!!! I said he just didn't want to be murdered! We both laughed out loud and had to explain to some younger co-workers about that bit-o-history.

Nice find bud. If I'm correct that's 9 seasons. That's a possible 6 out of 18 games, plus 2 postseason games during the careers with both players. The teams have met in the postseason another 2 times since Bettis retired.

I keep remembering a game where the Steelers ran all over them with some ungodly Time-of-possession numbers.

I think there were some cameras capturing Lewis on the sidelines sobbing again...

I remember a Monday night game where we just absolutely destroyed them. Harrison on special teams his a kickoff returner so hard the ball came loose and shot at least 20'+ into the air. The ravens looked like a highschool team.

I think it was the 2001 December 16th game. Can't find video and it's probably not what the OP needs as Bettis missed that game....

They did have a crazy TOP of 41:05 to 18:55!

I remember one game when the Bus was sitting it out with a pulled groin and Ray Lewis was yelling on the sideline : "Hey Bettis, just tape up that groin and get hell out here!" The game being remembered above was all BB and the defense. Until Bell arrived in Pgh, Steelers rarely were ever able to run on the Ratbirds, including FWP.

Bettis was a beast. How I long for those days of smash mouth football.
