Pead and Archer might be ok. Trent Richardson would be better than Todman/Tousaint.

The best would surely be LaMichael James; he has great moves, quickness, speed and toughness. I know he had some fumble issues, but he would be great for us now!

Of course I am biased toward Oregon players since I live in OR now. BTW, I would still take Mariota over Roethlisberger for the long term.

I think they learned their lesson last year and I don't see them bringing anyone new in. I know you guys don't agree but if they did Archer would make the most sense. If they are gonna throw it 50 times and not involve the RBs in the passing game anyway they might as well leave Will J and or Heath in to block. I think J. James can handle some of Heaths pass catching duties. I doubt they go the Archer route if anything maybe they promote Rajon Neal but to me it's just makes more sense to roll with what we got. Personally I like what Todman brings athletically. Toussaint looks just ok and doesn't look like he offers much....I hope I'm wrong because I think he's going to get his share of playing time. As long as the RB spot doesn't kill us we should be ok...but it's gotta give us something.

If I read one more post saying they are ok and look at last year I will scream. I swear I will cute some eyelids off. As others have said they need to threat of a run game to back off the pass rush. They need a solid option at RB and no Todman and Touissant are not good enough to roll with. The only way those two work is if they go to a short passing game that gets the ball out quick in lieu of a running game, more of a west coast look. They need the threat. The referencing of last year needs to be explained as well. Tate started out well he was moving the ball and then he put it on the ground and Tomlin lost all confidence and benched him. It wasn't that he was new or didn't know the offense, he made one very correctable mistake and they went to 100% air attack. Now I am sure that the two ont he roster are good enough against camp fodder and maybe they can have a huge splash game but the Oline has to block perfectly and they need WillJ to road grade for them. That will bring the B's up and open up stuff for Brown and Wheaton.

How do you know Todman/Touissant are any worse than the current available RB's? Who from them do you think would be better, and why?

Who would be your solid threat? Not exactly a plethora of pro bowl backs out there just waiting for our call. Are you suggesting we bring Tate back? We will roll with what we got because it's our best and really only option. We are looking for a career performance from one of those guys if we can get it but I will settle for one or both of them doing just enough to help us get a win and not cost us one.

I don't know that they wouldn't be better but logic certainly says if they were better than we think they might have given Dwill a bit more of a breather throughout the last few weeks. To answer the question who is out there that is better? I'm not sure there is better but they need a legit threat at running back and those two need some coaching up

They need to bring in the best blocking back they can find, whether fullback or running back. DWill was not given enough kudos for his pass blocking

We are ok, look what happened last year. :whistley:

Its a more than fair assertion, Thorn. How much is anyone going to learn in less than a week and what, maybe 3 practices?

I'd absolutely take Todman & Tousaint over anyone off the scrapheap. No one on that list is worth a look at this point.

Using the same logic, wouldn't the FO have replaced T&T with someone significantly better from the FA pool to serve that purpose I if in fact that player was out there? I think the point you raise against not bringing anyone in simply because some feel the Tate move did not pan out is valid enough, but I don't see a better play here. If there was someone I thought had a good chance of making an impact I would support the idea of working them out, but replacing a 3rd/4th stringer familiar with the system with a 3rd/4th string outsider isn't a gain in my book.

I think it would all depend on the level of experience any player they brought in has vs say the relatively inexperienced players in Todman and Tousiant. Now I am not saying anyone out there is automatically better but from what those two have shown my confidence is low. If either had shown some spark I would be fine saying give them a ton of reps get them an abbreviated playbook with a short list of responsibilities and yes roll with them. However neither has shown much and I am a guy that said let Landry Jones have a start with starters and superstars and see how he does. Tousaint just had zero push, no nose for hitting the hole and even though he had some desire he flashed he didn't move the pile like Redman could and he had about the same talent level. Wasn't there someone from the Saints that @blountforcetrauma@blountforcetrauma wanted during the off season that didn't get any takers on?

I wouldn't advocate a scrapheap guy Blast but a savy vet if there is one to be had might offer something these two don't. I am not advocating cutting these guys and getting joe the plumber off the streets but I would like some experience in the mix and not just a guy that has been on the team for months and knows some of the plays

I would sign Ray Rice for the sole purpose of being personal foul bait for Burfict and Pac-man..Rice could play the roll of a cop car in a street riot...let those 2 turds take their anger out on Rice ..when he gets taken out..then we can put our guys in , and the refs will be keeping a closer eye on those 2 a-holes to act up again :hi:

We just added RB Abou Toure to the practice squad so I am guessing we're about to call up Rajion Neal to the active roster.

Toussaint is a straight ahead kind of runner but if there are holes he can make serviceable yards. Probably a better option than Tate was.

Toussaint has a good build for a RB, at 5'9", 205; I just think his lack of plus speed, elusiveness, or push is what makes him a 3rd stringer in the NFL. If the line can open up some holes or Ben gets him the ball in space I think he'll be alright. Picking his way through a crowd probably isn't going to work very well.

With that being said ,if the same could be done for Todman he is much more of a threat because he has all those things Toussaint lacks plus more experience to boot. I also read that he didn't fumble in college with over 500+ carries in his career. I hope they give both guys a chance you never know which one might be lightning in a bottle. I don't know what the knock is on Todman and why he isn't being given this opportunity or so it seems. 'obviously ' they are enamored with Toussaints pass protect but one or both need to be actually involved in the offense. Rushes, screens ,check downs something to keep the D honest.

Yep - I didn't mean to single out Touissant; I'm all for giving Todman looks as well.

Was that Pierre Thomas? If it was, he signed with Washington

It was Pierre Thomas and a few weeks ago I think it was the Jags that wound up signing him. Don't quote me on that exact team but he did get signed. I wanted him badly but Williams panned out so it all worked out. I just thought he would have been a good fit for the Haley system. I don't know of anybody out there now that I'd take. I will say that I'd take Mendy before Archer though and I don't like either of them.
