Who said it wasn't also Kenny's fault? Sure wasn't me. Canada isn't the one missing open receivers or missing throws, but he sure as hell is the one responsible for the horrible play calling and route designs.

There's lots of blame to go around and everyone is responsible.

Odds of Canada returning in 2024 is slim to none. Odds of Brian Daboll having a job in 2024 is also slim. Would he be a good fit as the Steelers’ OC?

I think Daboll will get another shot next year. Things are messy there though.
I have no idea if he would be a good OC or not. He's got a mixed record with both failures and success, but records just don't tell the whole story. It's really hard for fans to know who is actually good or not. It's a very fine line between being a good coach and not being one.

Why do people keep comparing to a Qb that's arm wasn't close to what it was before the surgery, and was old. He used the middle of the field even then more than We do now. Answer Me this.....if We are running routes to the middle of the field, and they are not being thrown.....who's fault is that???? Because I have never....never known one coach to say.....hey....I don't care if it's open, or not.....don't throw there.

Do You remember when people said the same thing when Kordell was here??? How come they don't let him throw to the middle of the field.....then average Maddox came in , and threw to the middle of the field. The reason was because Kordell couldn't read the middle very well.
Hell look at when Trubisky comes in....magical there are passes into the middle of the field, but they are ints with him. LoL You can run every route into the middle of the field, and if KFP doesn't want to throw them.....He won't.

Who's fault is it? Both. Pickett for not throwing to the middle and the coaches for not sitting him down and telling to utilize the whole damn field. Our offence is a disgrace. Everyone is to blame. I don't care who is more to blame.

All I'm saying is they have routes to the middle of the field. Hell almost all of Trubiskys ints since He's been here are in the middle of the field. Maybe KFP doesn't trust the middle of the field.

Is anyone seeing obvious option routes? By that I mean routes that change depending on coverage. I remember clearly a couple of weeks ago Robinson crossing the field in zone coverage, and KP threw a bit behind him to stop him from running the route right into a squatting zone defender. I’m sure it was intentional, and resulted in a completion. Any competently designed NFL offenses use option routes where the QB and receivers have to read the coverage. The closest thing I’ve seen is KP deciding to throw over the top or back shoulder on 9 routes depending on the position of the defender.

Also, we rarely have motion at the snap that affects coverage at the snap. When we motion a receiver, he usually sets for 2-3 seconds before the snap. Look at Miami. They constantly force defenses to adjust man coverage assignments at the snap by having a receiver in motion, changing his positioning relative to the other eligible receivers (for example coming across the formation while the defense has no idea whether he’ll by the X, slot or 3rd receiver from the sideline. Sometimes they even have the motion man go all the way to the X and then turn around and come back inside at the snap. It’s not likely to be a big problem for zone, but can be a man coverage killer.

The route combinations may be the same as those run routinely, but the pre snap activity can cause confusion and force mismatches.

We’re plain vanilla in these aspects of the passing game.

Yeah I have been supporting Pickett all year but it is getting to the point it is hard to defend his play.

I will say it appears like he is playing nervous like he is afraid to make a mistake. It was the same with Mitch and Rudolph when they started. I feel like it has been drilled into their head by Tomlin to not turn the ball over. The problem is I feel like it gets into their head to the extent these guys don’t play loose at all.

I would just like to see him cut it loose a little more. Maybe not in a wreck less abandon like Trubisky does now but definitely not play so conservative.
We’re going to need the pass game because teams are really gonna start stacking the box against us after these last two weeks. In addition our defense is so depleted right now I don’t see how we can rely on the defense the second half of this season.

If I remember correctly....they were running route options at the earliest part of the year, and they got away from it because the target, and KFP weren't on the same page. I don't know if they have gotten back to it yet...

    Good points.

I'm not seeing much of the option routes, but it's hard to really know. They haven't had much in the way of hot routes either. That has even been addressed in some videos where people are breaking down film and talking about it.

At the end of last season, Freiermuth said that there were no hot routes built into the offense. It's impossible to run an offense like that.

You're also right about the motion. Canada uses it just to move people around and maybe give the quarterback some idea of coverage, but he doesn't do it enough, and he never uses it the way you talk about the Dolphins use it. I've posted it here many times as well. Canada never uses motion to actually get an advantage on the field. He should be moving Pickens to the slot because it's harder to double him there. He should be snapping the ball with receivers in fast motion across the formation to confuse coverages and make it near impossible to double them or at the very least, allow them to get off the line clean and with great speed.

That was one thing Todd Haley was very good with AB...He was rarely in the same spot, a big reason why he almost always had at least 8-10 catches per game.

Haley's play calling was frustrating at times, but his schemes were very good and even when Haley was still with us, I said that!
