Meddling or whatever, something clearly isn't right within the organization. The years of stability that fans enjoyed might be over under the current president and ownership.

I disagree, the Rooney's are fine. We are simply in a media age where literally everything that happens is in the news... that hasn't always been the case, so we really have no way of knowing their degree of involvement in the past.

Fair enough .. To me it read like you were implying that was the case, hence my reply.

As for Rooney wanting to have a better running game, I just don't see that as an outdated concept. That's all the man really said.

As for your running it between the tackles comment .... Wasn't that exactly what the Steelers were doing these last few years under Arians?

How far in the past are you suggesting? The media's been around reporting everything under the sun since at least the 90's. It appeared that Cowher had the freedom to chose his coaching staff. If the ownership over ruled Tomlin's decision, that seems to suggest something isn't right within the organization. Appears to be disconnect between what the head coach wanted and what the owners wanted. If I were HC, I'd want the autonomy to choose my coaching staff. Tomlin may not have the power to choose his coaching staff. Tomlin may not have much input into who the organization hires as next OC. Fans that blame Tomlin for keeping BA may need to reevaluate their stance.

The Rooney's are not the only owners of the team any longer. They have to take the other owner(s) into consideration.

Art said MT is interviewing candidates now and will make the decision on who to hire. Take that for what it's worth I guess.

there is obviously an increase in available information (accurate or not - brevity has replaced accuracy as a journalistic priority in this information age where the average attention span has been reduced to seven seconds). anytime ANYTHING happens, florio is posting it on PFT and a jillion other hacks are trying their best to scoop everyone and make a name for themselves.

still, the pittsburgh steelers, as an organization, are definitely in a transitional stage. they had to sell a large minority stake of the team, dan rooney is getting older and taking on other ambitions (ireland), and art rooney is taking on a bigger role in the day-to-day operations. since 1933 and throughout the 70s and the better part of the 80s, the chief was the face. from 88 until the mid-2000's, it was predominantly dan rooney. art has, in the past several years, stepped up and assumed (forced?) a bigger role as the face of the organization. i believe we have arrived at the time where art is the guy now. and he's putting himself out there more than dan ever did. we have no reason to trust that aren't won't do as good a job as dan did for so many years, but he does seem to be taking a different approach than the chief and dan. i believe there MIIIIIIIIIIGHT be some reason for concern. pure specualtion (maybe the 'information age' theory holds some validity) but it's worth paying attention to anyway . . .
