It looked unusual then for Bush to cover so much ground. I thought Bush played his assignment wrong. Turns out he was trying to cover for Edmunds.

Despite that, Bush showed me he is a team player who is willing to take the fall for another's mistake.

    ...must...blame...the...coach...must...point...the...finger...

See, it's things like this that make me even angrier with our Head Cheerleader. Why does Bush have to fall on the sword for a teammate who has been out of position since he got drafted? Tomlin came here with experience as a defensive back coach. And now we're seeing the reincarnation of Artie Burns. Okay, Edmunds isn't THAT bad. But he's about as useful as tits on a bull. And Tomlin can't figure out what to do with them. He keeps flicking at them, trying to get milk. THERE'S NO MILK THERE, MIKE.

Apparently Butler has come out and said that someone was supposed to blitz and didn’t (he didn’t say who). It’s possible that Edmunds was taking the right guy, and Hilton was supposed to be in Driskel’s face.

    Hmmm... odd.

So is Butler trying to cover for Edmunds then?! If not, did Devin Bush not receive the correct play all. The article in Steelers Depot is showing a coverage disguise call.

    Interesting indeed.

I think it's really too early to tell and I would need to watch some film. Have not yet. Going to give him the benefit of the doubt until I seem something in game that's obvious

Edit: He also had an interception in the Denver game which shows he is around the ball alot.

C'mon. If someone didn't blitz then we would have had another body in coverage. What does not blitzing someone have to do with not being able to cover a TE? Sounds to me like our defensive gurus think that pressure is the ONLY way to shut down the opponent's passing game.

Butler translation: If we blitz, we can have breakdowns in coverage.

So did someone not blitz on the very next play when Fant beat Bush again for the 2pt conversion?

    Hey Jujubean.

I will tell you what. That touchdown pass that he threw to Diontae Johnson in the fourth Quarter against the Broncos gave me a lot to be optimistic about.

That was a tough throw, on the run and on the money. Check it out again if have not already. Definitely a very encouraging sign IMO. And speaking of Johnson, man that guy is elusive.

I like a lot of these young WRs the Steelers have feel like we have many weapons in the passing game. Running game I’m a little more concerned about, I don’t think Conner is a true number 1 and Benny can’t hold onto the rock! Today is a big day for this offense. The rust should be off at this point looking for a complete game.

Saw a stat that had Ben surpassing M. Webster for the most starts as a Steeler yesterday. Time to surpass him in SB appearances Ben, get it done.

I would think Bush would get frustrated with his role in the passing game, constantly having to drop into coverage. I don't pretend to be any kind of defensive coordinator, but couldn't we occasionally mix it up and let him come after the passer? Or is that just the design of the defense that he needs to be the one covering backs and tight ends? I also cringe when I see Vince Williams having to run downfield to cover a wide receiver, but many times he does it well.

They are using Bush in this manner because of his speed. He was not brought in as a thumper. He was picked by the Steelers because of his coverage ability and speed..
