In some posts I keep sharing watching the 70's Steelers, I know pre CAP and FA, but a lot of what you said is so evident. In 78 we won not only because the future HOfers and superstars, but solid play be Rocky and Randy Grossman, some young guys like Tony Dungy and Larry Anderson, the 'tradition' started earlier in the decade, but the younger guys truly bought in. The 'me' thing is hard to overcome when mediocrity has set in. The 9's seem to have a solid culture this year and seemingly they have bought in, helps when you have a solid coach and some very good players, lol, but to keep that for any period is very difficult.

Did Ben mention the Steelers untraditionally standing by him throughout his allegations, twice?

Ben was part of the culture problem in the later years. He took things outside the locker room. While we can look at AB and Bell being on the crazy side, they did complain about the kind of leader he was. Initially I took it with a grain of salt, but there were other former players that have made comments. Ben may have been positive on the field, but he was not the positive impact on other players in the locker room.

Cowherd was talking about Ben's comments earlier today. Cowherd equates Tomlin to Tom Landry in the late 80's. The game has passed him by... and Steelers need a new culture that is more offense-oriented to adapt to the modern 2020's NFL. I agree.....Steelers need to move on.

TOMLIN tries to win games 13-10. Problem is the offense struggles to get to 13.

As much as I hate to say to the 'boys are looking pretty good as well. We have seen this before and in the playoffs they sink, but a very solid team.

No, the only way we become the Pirates is if the NFL gets rid of salary cap. I can't see Mr. Rooney throwing money around like the LA Dodgers. In a salary cap league you have to have the ability, foresight and lady luck to balance the ledger with the great players (more money) and the so-so guys who fit into your cap space. Stupid Patriots had some success with this when Tommy boy was there.

We all know Nutbag ain't shelling out for the better players but I think Rooney will spend to the cap. Problem is we don't seem to have the ability or foresight and lady luck left the building. A few down years, of course, but can't see the Steelers sucking for so many years in a row.

that was not Ben's fault but Rooney / Colbert's BAD decisions.

the last Ben contract, in particular - was a mistake.

In his prime, Ben + Tomlin = underachieve

Yeah, can’t blame Ben for not turning down a boatload of money but can blame him for his pettiness in their effort to prepare themselves for his eventual departure by looking for his successor. When they tried with Rudolph he threw a hissy fit. Unfortunately they missed by a mile with Rudolph and then didn’t try again because of Bens reaction to it.

Cowturd is THE worst. I almost vomited the other day when he pathetically insulted Joe Rogan while insulting Aaron Rogers. I never knew or cared about his politics but the POS shoved it down my throat. Couldn't be paid to ever listen to that scumbag again.

Who the f*CK is Joe Rogan and why should I care? Aaron Rodgers is a wealthy, successful adult. He can handle insults.

As far as politics is concerned, Cowherd comes across as an economic conservative with moderate and liberal social views on his show. An old school Libertarian...not the douche-ey modern Rand Paul wannabe Libertarian type.

Last time I checked, Cowherd and the sports media are insulting Kenny Pickett much more than Aaron Rodgers....so cry me a freaking river. :smiley1:

All I know is the Steelers have only had three head coaches in the last 54 years. Hey, maybe that's their tradition, holding onto coaches too long.

In all seriousness, Noll was a living legend, the Rooney's weren't gonna throw him out on the street even though it was time for a change.

Cowher won playoff games in 4 of 5 years, including 3 championship games and won a SB, before his victory lap in 2006. You can't ask for much better.

But, Tomlin...wtf? What do you owe this guy at this point? You gave the young guy a shot, he had a few good years, but have had diminishing returns for the last decade.

    What is he owed?

Ben has his detractors, but look at the guys who generally have his back … Pounce, Heath, Bettis, Colon … I put way more stock in what those guys have to say than AB’s or Lev Bell’s hit piece interviews.

That Lev Bell interview was sort of disgusting. They sat down with him in a special just so he could talk some sh!t even though he wasn’t with the team all year … it was all for TV ratings. I wonder how much they paid him to make it look good for the camera.

I do remember one quote from that interview with Bell complaining that Ben acted like he was an owner. I will say that is the attitude you want from your franchise QB.
