I thought it was because he doesn't have that way cool touchdown celebration with the belt and stuff.

And yes, I am being sarcastic.

I like Ben (the man) I don't get why people bash him....He got called for "faking injury" last year....during the Browns game...when every person who saw it thought his year was over....knee twisted...leg fallen on...gets basically carried off the field....He is done...its over.....then he comes limping back out...finishes the game..and plays the 49ers....and its...He was never hurt...FAKER.

We all saw the hit....but simply because he is a tough SOB he must be faking it.

Ben came into this league wanting to write PFJ on his shoes and talking of a higher spirit....He did take a turn...and has publicly said so...but has also righted the ship according to those who know him.

You know why Ben gets more crap than Cutler or Rivers....because people pay attention to Ben.

Yeah Hack I'm still trying to figure out how the "drama queen / faker" got injured badly enough so that he shouldn't have played against SF. Which is it? Drama Queen/Faker or Selfish for playing injured?

I don't really see a big deal here. He was asked a question and he answered it. I am a little surprised he named a specific game as opposed to saying 'nope', but If Ben felt there 'may have been some things going on' then I guess he must have had a reason to believe that. You can listen to the actual interview here~ stlrs.co/Lt8O9t

I rewatched the game and what can you say...the niners have a mean defense. They were laying on the intimidation early on, and you could see a couple plays where they kept up with the bull rush and driving the OL into the QB well after the ball was released. Aldon Smith said 'it was on their mind' in reference to his injury, and that's the way every team is. When Romo was playing with broken ribs, DeAngelo Hall came right out and said he was going to target it with his helmet. Every defense is going to go after a weakness. It's football and I'd want my defense to play as fiercely as possible, too. I'll say that Ben wasn't exactly the statue some say he was in that game. Sure he was playing hurt, but there were a few plays where he was surprisingly mobile considering the condition his ankle was in. He definitely had problems with his accuracy because of his planting foot- no question. On a somewhat unrelated note, Max Starks was getting owned most of the night. The defense was giving him fits throughout the game. A lot of BS that game as far as officiating, but when isn't there I suppose. Sorry for the tangent...it was hard to watch again.

The problem is that there is way too much media attention and the world wants everybody to be so stinking politically correct. Someone could say one thing and the media twist it every which way but loose and then the masses beat it to death which ever way they see fit. It hits twitter, Farcebook and every other social media outlet and it becomes stomping grounds with rallying points. People need to get a life and quit worrying about what some beat writer is fishing for.

Ben is the toughest QB to come out of college in this past decade hands down and probably 2 decades before that and most people have a problem about the way he goes about his daily business. Next time he wins a ring don't forget to chastise him for kissing the trophy only after kissing his wife first.

Even thinking about this game makes our draft so much sweeter. Decastro alone will make a huge difference, and I truly believe Mike Adams will as well, although perhaps not immediately. In time, we should have one of the better lines in the league. When was the last time we could say that? I'm so excited for this upcoming season!

Listening the actual audio this is a non issue. He wasn't accusing them of anything. Media dudes just don't have anything better to talk about.

Yeah the 49ers most likely had a target on his injury. I do remember one of the outside linebackers going low one time, but that was one time, nothing that smelled like a bounty.

I don't see/hear Ben Say anything that comes across "odd" or controversial.

It's like the people that say he's a drama queen and all that...

I really have no clear idea who they're watching or listening to.

    Sheesh

People I live here locally, Ben creates his own problems. Now hopefully
that has changed. In his early days here, he thought he was so entitled
and all the service workers(Bartenders/Waitresses) hated him. He also has seemed to
create some injury Oh lets see (broken thumb) and others, yet the Steelers never announced
these injuries? I will say this about #7, he is one tough Hombre, to play behind the deplorable
OL he has had to play with most of his career. And he is a competitor that wants to play
every snap, sometimes though (San Francisco) maybe you shoudn't, but hey they are paying him the 102 to play so there you go. He has been the very most important player drafted for this organization
since the dynasty years. He is the straw that stirs the drink her in the STEEL CITY.
2 out of 3 with more coming.

I don't see anything wrong with Ben's comments. He was asked and he answered. If he avoided it, they still would have still tried to make something out of nothing.

I'd be disappointed if the 49ers didn't go after Ben's ankle a little harder than normal. Players are supposed to find and exploit opponents' weakenesses and if they do it legally there is nothnig wrong with it.

What injuries "has he created" ?

He 's a professional in the world of sports where grown men, the gladiators of our time really, get paid to beat him down. He is the target, focal point, of 300 pound athletes that want him out of the game, like now! So h3ll yeah, he gets some bumps and bruises.

Drama queen? He's a QB in the National Football League and pretty much represents an entire city, culture if you will, the job and position itself provides the drama for him wherever he goes and whatever he does . That's a lot to carry on one's shoulders but he appears to handle it quite well, IMO. Ask Terry Bradshaw or read his book on what it's like being "the man" for Steeler fans.

I have a problem with him when he's getting in trouble with the law but I have yet to hear him do an interview that really bothered me or have an injury I doubted. His thumb, are you kidding me?

    Sheeesh...

If Heloty Nata or however you spell that name, had broke Marcia Brady's nose like Ben's, He would have been doing the "Little SISSY BI*CH dance all over the feild. That is in answer to they guy who said Ben don't complain about hits much

Absolutely Coastal.. I broke my nose and for 3 days it was difficult to lift my head. I can't imagine playing a football game with that injury.

The consensus seems to be that in rewatching the game we didn't see any blatant illegal hits on Ben. That just means that any targeting wasn't physically acted out by the niners. Ben may have heard about the targeting through the grapevine, through his contacts among the niner players. Could have been planned but not executed. Give Ben the benefit of the doubt here.

Would anyone in the football world have read an article or watch an interview that went?
ESPN reporter:'Ben when was the last time you felt a team targeted you?'
    Ben: 'never'
ESPN reporter: 'And thats it from Ben and Pittsburgh, back to you Chris in NY.'

Its the news, good news doesnt sell as well as bad, and thats just sad.

    OR, it could go......
ESPN reporter: Ben when was the last time you felt a team targeted you?
    Ben: 'never"
ESPN reporter: 'so you think your above being targeted by teams"? 'And that's it from Ben and Pittsburgh, where Ben rothlisberger thinks he's to good to be targeted by teams" ....Chris back to you.

    Exactly.
It`s the whole 24/7 news cycle, that has every media outlet, just dying to fill "dead air", and make a story, that creates most of this so-called "controversy"...
I have to thank TTF (again), for posting a link to the actual audio, of the interview.
As usual, if you take the time to LISTEN to what Ben said, instead of just reading whatever quotes were put in print, you will realize that it doesn`t sound as bad as it comes across, in print.
Same problem, we often have on this board.
Printed words come across differently, than what people say, face to face.
There is no "body language", or tone of voice, to judge from.
It`s why people often miss sarcasm, in a post, unless there is a disclaimer, or "smiley", to denote it...
(And to be clear... there is no sarcasm, in this reply.)
