Ben Roethlisberger becomes the latest Steelers player to restructure his contract. Clears about $8 million under 2012 salary cap.

Getting there. If restructuring Harrison can get us below the cap numbers, we'll have lots to work with once we start making cuts.

That should put us 4 mill under the cap we were four over with the colon deal.. Bring on harrison hampton ward and troy. If those four restructure their deals like rumors say then we are in great shape. Throw in kemo and foote/farrior and we will actually have money to spend.

8 is too much, Casey will be willing to restructure and/or take a cut.

Yay Ben! Now if the NFL would only announce what the cap will officially be...they should be close though.

First of all, to be clear, this was better for Ben than not restructuring. The restructuring moved a bunch of his salary to an up front bonus. He gets the same amount. He just gets it now instead of during the season.

I can't believe for a second that Hampton will be here at a 4.9M base salary next season. Something's got to give there. I also see Kemo, Foote, Ward, Smith and Allen as realistic cap cuts - although I would try to keep Ward at the vet minimum. We need to make most or all of those cuts to sigh Wallace long-term, and hopefully fit in a minor free agent signing or 2. We've done well with those 2nd and 3rd tier signings over recent years (except on the O-line), and I'd hate to see us miss out on that because we hold onto guys like Kemo and Allen.

I'm confused about this. I thought players earn "game checks" after every game they are active. If restructuring moves base salary to up front bonus money, does that mean players don't even have to be active to get paid since they already received the bonus in advance? I'm not talking about Ben in particular since he would be active, but just a general question about bonus/upfront money.

They still earn game checks, just that the game checks are a lot smaller. Hell, if Harrison could get all of his pay in the form of a bonus, then he could get suspended more and it wouldn't cost him anything.

Yeah, he was the very first, I think. Or close to it.

I nominate truckin9999 as "Most Useful Poster" for this year's Postie Awards.

Antonio Brown's cap charge: $564,359. Think he'll restructure???
Holy moly, talk about value. Won't last much longer.

That is outstanding. When I lived in Miami, Dan Marino would never restructure his contract. Consequently he never had a quality defense, a quality running game, and never won a superbowl.

And he's our MVP! Poor guy, after taxes & paying his agent, there can't be much left. Shouldn't he qualify for one of those performance bonuses handed out by the NFL to "underpaid" players?

Yeah i like brown a lot and he is quickly becoming my favorite steeler. Loved the story of his bro getting in trouble and him making him go to pitt so he could keep an eye on him. Also he has one of the best work ethic in the nfl. Ive his work out is pretty much just like rices.
