With the news, just thinking, no matter how you regard his off the field issues, Ben has been an ultimate warrior. Especially considering the amount of sacks, which hopefully not this year he will be passing Favre.

I thought the wacky weird season last year couldn't be topped but this early preseason has my jaw on the floor. Guys getting hurt, guys retiring. Patriots dropping left and right. If anything else happen's I might lose my mind.

Maybe we now have a trade partner for Dobbs. I like the guy and want him to stay in the league. The just don’t see him fitting into our scheme

I just do not see much value. it's not like he is a proven vet who could sign, plug and play almost immediately. Yes he is in his 3rd year, but the same system with little playing time. That said, I just checked the QB roster for the Colt's. After Brisset they have an undrafted guy from last year, and the Bronco's 7th round pick from 2018. I do not know how they even played..if they offered a 5th or 6th I would take it for Dobbs.

Won't be happening. Dobbs isn't better than Jacoby and the value for a backup doesn't go up any here.

If Ben is playing 3 more years, would the Steelers offer Rudolph for the Colts 2nd round pick in 2020?

They claimed to have had a 1st round grade on Rudolph. If this is true then why trade a 1st round talent for a 2nd round pick?

Andrew was “mentally worn down”? Really?

Man what a waste of a draft pick for the Colts, they should of let Manning stay as long as he wanted.

It’s a lesson in why giving up on seasons for high draft picks is a bad idea.

His timing really screwed his team. I don't think his teammates will be throwing him a surprise going away party.

And what if Ben goes down early on? You want Dobb's taking the reins? From what I have seen from Rudolph so far he looks poised, in command of the offense and personally I am less worried if Ben gets niked up. He has shown he is the solid#2. Dobbs is tradable, he will not be a starter so get what you can, hopefully a 5th. Hodges can be the clipboard holder.

I can’t say I blame Luck. He has had some pretty bad injuries. The torn labrum was bad (and he even had a setback somewhere in that rehab process).

I imagine he has saved enough money to be comfortable in life. At some point, you have to make a decision about family and quality of life.

I think a big takeaway is how quickly an NFL career can become derailed by injuries.

I am happy we don't have to play him any more. I have no doubts he will be just fine financially, etc for life. He's pretty smart and I'm sure he wouldn't have made this move without being well prepared.

Was looking forward to see luck play at Heinz this year. He was one of the few active marquee type QB's I had yet to see play. Guess I will miss out, on that.

Steelers had a good record against him. I don't ever remember him beating us.

I will say he always seemed like the most polite of NFL players

From what I read, the Steelers only faced him once, the other times being against his back-ups.
In that game, Ben passed for 522 yards and 6 TDs.

He was a classic Elway-esque player who was great to watch for the neutral. A shame he’s retired, given the lack of quality QBs around the league right now.

I heard the Colts aren’t asking for his signing bonus back - I wonder if this is a gesture or they don’t want protracted battles about the nature of his rehab, if they wanted it back and he refused.

Man, quitting a week before the season, that's rough.
Wonder if he can be talked out of it once he gets his head straight.

I agree that the timing is about as bad as it gets, but it sounds like he had some kind of injury flare up. I could see such a decision if he got bad news from the medical staff (ie that it would be a struggle through the year).

People still make a fuss when Ben, some years ago, contemplated retiring after the Eagles sacked him six times in one game.

Luck has been stomped on for years, and still hasn't healed right. I'd say his head is already on straight.
(Rather than quitting a week before the season, he was probably hoping his body would be better by now, and it isn't.)
