If he's cleared why can't he fly with the team?

I guess this means that for the 2nd straight week the Steelers will start a QB to execute a game plan designed for the other guy.

Did he actually pass the second test or is he flying out in hopes he passes the second test? If he has already passed the second test there’s no reason for him to fly separately from the team. Something is fishy with this one

Well this changes my jersey choice and prediction. Instead of a loss I see us now winning this game. Sorry HeinzMustard. We are not doomed after all.;)

Maybe he just wants to stop in Vega$ and let them know what roughing the passer really is. He might just 30 - 45 yards in penalties that will change the betting line.

Ben with no practice for two weeks in an offense that was already struggling and a defense short handed.

I hope he is up for the challenge and stays upright and healthy to finish the season. I hope. But my gut tells me Ben is like a tire with a slow leak and the longer you drive on it, the more issues will develop. Which I don't hope for.

This. I'm far more concerned about the absences on defense than I was about Roethlisberger being able to play.

Yea, it looks like my beer allotment for this game will need to increase by 33.4% and I'll need to start at least 2 hrs before the game. Wish the game were earlier in the day dammit. JMO>

Still have an offense that will struggle to score 20 and a decimated D. That said, Tomlin will have them better prepared and focussed than he did for Chicago and Detroit, because Mike Tomlin.

Just because Ben no longer has Covid doesn't mean that he doesn't have some lingering effects from it. The people that I know that have had it say that it leaves them really tired and exhausted. I just wonder how much energy that he will have during the game.

I assume that even when a player doesn't "practice", they are involved in team meetings, video review, etc., even if on remote video. So it's not like Ben doesn't know the plan, and with years of experience, he should be OK. As OK as he has been, and probably better the Mason.

The fact that most of us are even contemplating who is better says all you need to know. The only way this current team is winning is with a dominant D or playing an awful team. Unfortunately half the D is Injured.

As long as Ben can play, he will play. Has nothing to do with Mason. Whether either QB can bring home a W is no guarantee.

As said the D is a major problem. Watt, Haden, Loudermilk and Fitzpatrick out. Plus the fact they are not playing together well as a unit. Hopefully they learned how to tackle this week.

Mason should start, and Ben should go in if he struggles at all.

If Mason sucks against the Chargers, after a full week of prep, then bump him down to QB3. The team needs to do something proactive, right? Lol

I would assume that the separate flight is out of abundance of caution so as to limit exposure for all parties involved

Mason would be starting if he didn't stink up the joint so bad after looking like a SB champion on the first drive. The fact that after that he threw long, wide, short, skipped and behind didn't help his cause at all for starting ever again.

If Ben is suited up he should start and he won't be coming off the field unless injured. He definitely gives the Steelers the best chance to win.

My point was benching Mason gives them another excuse to keep him active on the roster.

If Mason can't perform against the Chargers, after a full week of practice with the 1s, then he shouldn't even be QB2.

Personally, I think they should start Mason. Both options are flawed, and IMO neither gives the team a significantly better chance of winning tomorrow night in a game where injuries to the defense may force an abundance of passing from the offense. Most days I'd still say Ben, but coming off of two weeks of missed practice and COVID, I don't see him giving a major advantage.

The timing just offered them the opportunity to give Mason another start after a full week of prep, going on the road against a quality opponent, they could compare against LW's short-notice stint in the rain.
