I'm just saying if you wont pay a player just trade him him or let him go. It hurts both parties by constantly pro longing situations when the player is unhappy and not showing up.

So dont watch any of the games. Why would you want to watch a team play there selves?

Bell's past is the reason you don't give him Gurley guaranteed money. Smart move by the Steelers.

Trade him to the the Lions to reunite him with Legarrett Blount. Reestablish the Cheech and Chong connection to watch the puff clouds emanate from the vehicle as they jam to Bell's new rap album.

    I kid.

    Or am I ..

First off I'm a huge Woodson fan and not one of Bell.

To this day Woodsons rookie hold out for more money is the longest in team history. Missed all of camp and preseason and signed Late October .....

Also once he did hit FA he demanded more $ than the steelers cap could handle.... He signed for less money with another team.

Although I don't agree, I thought you were comparing them off the field and leadership-wise, not contracts. Contract-wise, I guess every player who's ever had a holdout or dispute could be lumped together.
The salary cap was a convenient excuse, and whether he signed for less isn't really known because it was only a one year deal in SF.

Speaking of Bell's actions... Anyone know the CBA language for team-levied suspensions and guaranteed money? Could the team theoretically suspend Bell for "conduct detrimental to the team" or something to that effect for a few weeks when he does finally report?
The problem I have is that once Bell shows up, he's going to play. The team won't keep that salary on the bench. And we all know how well an unprepared Bell did for the first couple of games last year.

Not to hijack the thread, but to this day I'm a bit sour that the Steelers didn't retain Rod Woodson. A Steelers icon in my mind. It was tough seeing him light it up in the league for years after his departure. I can't even imagine what a backfield containing Rod Woodson and Troy Polamalu would have accomplished.

As for Bell, eh. I really wonder what type of career he'll have once leaving the burgh. I see a rapid decline after a couple years.

Do you believe the Steelers are entitled to compensation for developing Bell and putting his skill set on display so that he can pursue the money he wants? His teammates both past and presents do they deserve compensation? They helped win the games he played in, he hasn't won a game single handed.

Yes, me too. Unlike today, Steelers didn't take care of their own back then. Mass exodus of talent during the early years of free agency. Maybe they didn't have the finances then, I don't know.

As for Troy and Rod, not much, only would have played 1 season together and Troy didn't fare very well his first season IIRC.

I guess Rod did hang it up around Troy's arrival. Thought there was more of an overlap.

You know what's interesting as the Rooney''s are being cast as part of this evil cabal of owners that are out to profit off these young men and the ability, the fact that they are in the business of running the Steelers and not for profit. They aren't like Wilf, a real estate developer, or the Browns owner that has a gas station empire, and the many more owners whose fortunes are what allow them to own football teams. The Rooneys or at least the immediate family run the team and nothing else.

You know, the Steelers did try to keep Woodson. But Rooney thought he should switch to safety after his knee injury. And switching meant they wanted him to be paid as a safety, not a cornerback. Rod didn’t agree and went to the 49s and found out that he needed to switch positions, which he did when he went to the ratbirds the next year. I don’t blame the Steelers as much as I do Woodson. They told him what he neeed to do. He just didn’t want to hear it.

Did the Redskins get compensation for Kirk cousins fully guranteed contract he just got because they weren't willing to agree on a long term deal?
