Let me get this right, he wants to be paid more because he is both a RB and a WR, but he doesn’t want to be used too much? This guy is starting to make my wife sound logical.

The front office had pipe dreams that they could sign the rap giant, hence the tag. Fools gold. He wants 17, remember? And the Steelers would not come close, so this is what you get.

I wish he would come and sign the tender and work out a trade partner, one that will throw him the 17. There will be. The NY Jets fans already want him.

If he does come in he won't be sitting. They will use him, and use him as they should. He won't tank an effort, he's got big dreams of 17.

Darn, their I go again being negative. Oh, what? Oh right, that's a different thread...something positive? I really like the effort put forth by James Connor, the kid is our starting running back...

    Let’s not forget:

But I take your point that he’s not a smash the line tank of a short yardage back.

He wants $18-20 million a year but doesn't want the workload that goes with it. If he comes back, he will simply walk off the field and refuse to run after 20 carries. And the Steelers can't do thing one other than fine him … what $50,000 … Big Deal.

Let's not forget the O-line is mostly responsible for the success of these short plunges! Not the running back.

Does that mean the O-line is also mostly responsible when the short plunges fail...

Other GMs are watching. He's hurting his own free agency value every time he opens his yap and he's too stupid to realize it. Also IDC what he's done before. His rhetoric about not wanting to be overused or over worked has to have planted seeds of doubt in the coaches and teammates heads as to his effort when he returns. To me, those comments are a deal breaker. The bridge is burned and there's no going back. He cannot and should not be trusted at all to be the Steelers running back when he returns. He needs to be 4th on the depth chart and return punts, or be a special teamer for the remainder of his days in Pittsburgh. End of discussion.

I was thinking of the more recent lack of success running a pitch out on 4 and 1 versus the Jags front 7 in the playoffs. If you are looking at fourth and one and you have to take it, you want that guy who lowers his shoulder and dives for that first down. O perhaps goes airborne to get that yard plunge over the top.

Too right. I’d probably put that particular call on Haley rather than Bell, but agree it was bad.

He has all the red flags. He's the type to get paid and give up. Any GM that gives him what he wants is stupid.

If he signs the tender and is traded the team he is traded for cannot give him a new deal until the off season. In other words he is not being traded. There would be little benefit for the team that traded for him.

I think they do. I honestly don't think our o-line is very good at run blocking when teams expect the run. We have seemed to struggle in short yardage for years.

What if...Bell comes back and plays poorly, doesn't try, gets injured, doesnt come back...

Other teams are watching...Say this offseason his top offer is 13 million...

The talking heads MJD, Stephen A. ( for ******* ) Smith and others...That have been blaming this all on Steeler Management...

    Will this still hold true?

I don't even think Earl Campbell would've done much better on that particular play. I agree about going over the top in those situations, also not adding negative yards to the run by pitching it to him in the backfield. I remember a mic'd up where Ben was telling Bell that certain plays are designed to hit the hole quick, not linger behind the line while the hole opens and closes (not an exact quote).

I can’t help but think GMs are thinking the same thing about his agent and therefore his other players/clients.
