The Steelers must find a way to sign Bell. He is worth breaking the bank. With Bell we have a legitimate shot at a SB before Ben retires. W/O him it's much less likely.

He's healthy but just waiting until the 17th deadline to see if the team is going to extend his contract, nothing wrong with that, if he signs his tag before the 17th he is locked in for the whole year and cant negotiate a new deal until the off season, but he will sign his tag offer sometime after the 17th and before the season opener if their isn't a new contract in place.....

Bell played in all the games last year (minus the suspension), he just got hurt in the AFC Championship game. When healthy he's arguably the best RB in the NFL, and top 3 for sure.

Some good questions to ask about Bells work load for 2017:

    SB Nation:
Will Steelers decrease Bell’s touches next season?

Last year Bell was easily one of the most used players in the NFL. He was second on his team in receiving and led the team in rushing. He ran the ball 261 times and caught 75 passes in only 12 games.

That is absolutely insane for the modern NFL running back. It also ended up coming back to bite the Steelers as Bell got injured during the playoffs and left the AFC Championship game just minutes into the action.

Bell is currently refusing to sign his franchise tag in hopes of getting a long term deal with the team, but he’s likely to come around (or get that deal) soon enough. However, there is a very good chance the Steelers try cutting back on some of Bell’s touches this year.

With Martavis Bryant set to return, Bell won’t have to be as prominently featured in the passing attack. The Steelers also drafted James Conner, out of Pittsburgh, who could help take some goal line carries off of Bell’s workload.

Bell is an extremely talented player, and it makes sense to want to get him as involved as possible. But, it is probably more important to have him at the end of the season, when the games become so much more important, and cut down on his regular season touches to increase the chances he makes it to the postseason healthy.

July 5,From around the AFC North:

Bell ‘good with everything’ as deadline approaches

In what has become a weekly update on Bell’s contract situation with the Steelers, the running back offered up his thoughts as the deadline to work out a long-term extension or sign his franchise tag grows closer.

"I'm good with everything, just taking it day to day for real," Bell told ESPN about how he is approaching the process.

If Bell and the Steelers can’t agree on a long term deal before July 17, Bell will sign his franchise tag tender and make around $12 million this season. If the team and player do come to an agreement, Bell will likely become the highest paid running back in the NFL, which would amount to him earning more than $8 million per season.

Deadlines often make deals happen, and the closer we get to the 17th, the closer we get to the pressure producing the best chance of a deal getting done.

If he plays well this year, next year I would tag him again, but this time with the Non-exclusive franchise tag rather than the Exclusive franchise tag. It would be no lose for both sides.

They offer him 120% of this season.

    One of 3 things happens:

He signs and plays for the tender.

He negotiates with another team, most likely for less money but more years:

    Steelers match it.

Steelers don't match it and get 2 first round draft picks.
