Saw on ESPN earlier tonight when they went to Philly and the question was posed to Dilfer and Young.....which team will win this year's Super Bowl? Young said based on yesterday (he did confess, it's basically a week-to-week league) the 49ers. Then Dilfer said...you remember the last two SB champs? The Packers and Giants around weeks 12&13 looked horrible and lost. Then they got healthy, got hot and got into the tournament. Both teams clawed into the playoffs, just barely with each winning the SB. When asked who is the team that Dilfer likes to win the SB this year....he said the Pittsburgh Steelers. He said when they get Ben back (maybe this week) and others back healthy, watch out because they have the formula....great D, a SB winning QB and as he said "a global-thinking head coach". I sure hope he is right!

I made a thread yesterday saying that this team was clicking before Ben got hurt and will do so again when he gets back. The trick is staying in playoff contention until he gets back and so far they are failing miserably. But once he gets back, in addition to some other key injures, yeah, I think it will be very hard to beat us.

12 teams are going to make the playoffs. BSPN has more than 12 people prognosticating. Today Dilfer says the Steelers, next week he will pick the Falcons. At some point, once the Superbowl teams have been decided, one of their prognosticators will come on and show some film of them blowing smoke up the teams that are in. So you have one guy, pick the Steelers, you also have a bunch who didn't. Okay Dilfer, always thought you sucked and wished you would just shut up on those programs, but I'll go with you for now. Your point that the Steelers can get healthy and go on a run is one that I've been making for 2 weeks now.

Let's see, we've lost to the Raiders and the Titans with Ben as our QB and almost lost to the Chiefs at home with Ben as the QB for a little over a half. We also lost to the Browns, albeit with Charlie "AARP" Batch as our QB. Troy is not going to all of a sudden return as the 2009 Troy and will not be the difference maker he once was. Forgive me if I don't have the sunny disposition and unbridled optimism of Trent "I've got a SB ring and Marino doesn't" Dilfer!

Lets see, the 2011 NY Giants lost to the 8-8 Philadelphia Eagles, the 7-9 Seattle Seahawks, and the 5-11 Washington Redskins not once, but TWICE.

    Just sayin...

Lets see, the 2010 Green Bay Packers lost to the 6-10 Washington Redskins, the 6-10 Detroit Lions, and the 7-9 Miami Dolphins.

This is so so so true. If this team gets healthy (and thats a big IF) I've got a really good feeling about them. They were just starting to gel and round into shape when Ben went down. People forget that. Get Ben and AB healthy plus Colon and this team can play with anyone in the league. They're closer than they appear.

Do you honestly think that this team doesn't make the playoffs if Ben comes back before the Dallas game?

Have you looked at current playoff seedings and schedules going forward or are you so down on this team after yesterday that you've written them off?

No, BB, I haven't written them off. Just attempting to interject a little humor into an otherwise pretty dire situation. In all seriousness, there is a chance the Steelers make the playoffs but I've seen them implode enough this year not to be overly optimistic. Shoot, I'm not even cautiously optimistic at this point. But if we can get some key players back and get them healthy we do have an opportunity. The defense is playing well but they need to create more turnovers to help out the offense, which needs ALOT of help at this point. Ben coming back will be a great boost but I've seen the team go out and lay an egg with him at the helm too. Any way you look at it, we've got an uphill battle. For crying out loud, did we envision that we would be 3 games behind the Ratbirds, essentially 4, after 11 games? I don't think so. I'm going to take the rest of the season as it comes and I'm certainly not going to get my hopes up. The Steelers could make the playoffs or they could miss the playoffs and struggle to be 500. We shall see.

The only team to worry about is the bungholes. I think we are easy at the 6 seed as long as the bungholes don't surpass us. It's pretty clear cut if you look at the standings, along with the remaining schedules that we make it, as long as we don't have a monumental collapse.

I agree that we've got the inside track to the number 6 seed, but I also know that this team is capable of a monumental collapse.

Im sorry but I can't ignore the 3 games before the KC game where this team was starting to roll. Even going back 4 games before KC they scored over 23 in each of them. Hardly a high octane output, but certainly an improvement over last years PPG. And it appeared to be getting better before Ben got hurt. I know the KC game was lack luster but consider A) Ben only played 1/2 of it, B) the great Ravens squeaked by the Chefs 9-6 just a few weeks earlier, C) the Chiefs kept Peyton in check yesterday allowing him only 17pts far below his season average, and D) the weather was less than ideal. In fact, it sucked.

The way the D has been stepping up, when Ben comes back they are going to be a completely different team and tough to beat. By anyone.

Games with back up QBs aside, there is nothing since September that shows me that this team is capable of a monumental collapse.

The irony of this is that she was basically saying there wasn't a chance and he was too dumb to see it. LOL.

The Colts have to play the Texans twice yet. 2 losses right there. 10-6 is the best they will do. They also go to Detroit on Sunday. Not an easy task.

LOL. It's one of the funniest for sure. I knew this guy that was obsessed with it when I was at my high school job. He would always try and come up with trivia questions about it. He comes to my church from time to time and the next time I see him I think I might ask him about it. I bet he still loves it. We still quote it at work all the time at UPS now too. That and Forrest Gump get quoted frequently. Many people like to quote The Big Lebowski but it has much too salty language for me so I usually just stick with Dumb and Dumber. LOL. It kinda fits me anyway.

Maybe we're parsing words here, but let's define monumental collapse. To me anytime a superior team like the Steelers loses to obviously inferior teams like the Raiders and the Titans, that's pretty monumental in my book. And Ben was our starting QB in those games. Forget the Browns game where we did have our third string QB at the helm. I'm not trying to be a wet blanket here, but the Steelers have proven this year, and in past years really, that they are capable of losing to anybody at any time, from the worst of teams to the best of teams. I just hope they get it together soon or we'll be on the outside looking in come playoff time.
