51 yards came from the QB abandoning the play and running, not from designed run plays. I wouldn’t put that on the “running game”.

Those numbers all count. Is anybody complaining about Josh Allen from the bills running when the player breaks down? Or any other quarterback in the league for that matter?
As a team we went over 200 yards yesterday. Don’t be such a wise ass. Be happy.

Yep. Glad to see it has improved. Hopefully more than one game.

Yes and a few times Najee didn't dance but I felt better every time #30 was back there. I still would make the switch to Warren as he is a better blocker and just runs downhill better than Harris. I know I know, Najee averaged 5 per carry and warren was just over 4 but Warren only got 9 reps vs 20 for Harris. The next couple games if he reverts back to garbage then pull the rip and switch over to Warren.

I'm happy as a clam Steelers won.

But, if we are objectively going to discuss the running game and it's improvement, then we should try to have more in depth discussion than just saying "everyone be happy". The point of this board is to discuss, right?

A QB running around after a play breaks down does not imply a great running team. That's very different compared to plays that ask the QB to run by design.

    Why wouldn't you????
Every team in the top rushing percentages in the league has a QB doing the exact same thing

Where in this post is the focus limited to designed running plays?

Even with a huge running number Pickett still averaging like 6 yards per pass. Not seeing improvement from him that I would have liked to see. He didn’t throw any Picks at least.

Yep, and Pickett threw for 199! 100 rushing and 200 passing just sounds so much better!

My point was that if a play is designed to be a QB run, then it's indicative of a good running game.

If a play is designed to be a pass, but it turns into a run, it says nothing about a "good" running game because it's not like the OL was run blocking anyone.

Looking at only the stats hides details that may be relevant.

Theres nothing more frustrating to me than seeing an opposing qb constantly when nobody is open running for first downs or constant dumpoffs that pick up first downs.

Not surprised, we're in the Mike Tomlin era now. Finesse over power. Slogans over production. Loyalty over success. The problems are evident.
We have a new GM for first time in forever, so maybe things will turn upward in regards to the "finesse v power" regard, but nothing overcomes bad coaching. The need for a new HC/OC is painfully evident, but highly unlikely (sadly).

Yep, and please note, we just played the Aints. That division is awful this year and we happen to be playing all four awful teams. It will hurt our draft pick number, but we'll get ugly wins, especially with Watt back. I am one of those hoping for a top 8 or so draft pick. I feel like this will be another late year run that keeps that from happening and might keep Canada around too...the worst possible outcome.

Either way, we need like 6 or 7 upgrades on the starting units just to be an average team. Thankfully we'll have a top 20 draft pick and quite a bit of salary cap space. Just hope the new GM can maximize the usage of both this off-season. This is the worst Steelers roster in 30+ years.
