Bediako - implications for NFL players with remaining eligibility

Obviously not college football but still related. If some of you guys don't follow college basketball or what happened at Alabama, Charles Bediako left Alabama 3 years ago and signed an NBA G-league contract. Maybe he realized that he wasnt going to make an NBA roster and then went back to Alabama with 2 more years of eligibility.

His lawyer is arguing that he left college because his NIL opportunities were less in 2023 than they are now and that he has a right to go back to college to earn more NIL money. NCAA basically said BS, and then a chancery court judge in AL who just so happened to be a 6 figure donor to the University of Alabama has issued a restraining order that is allowing him to play temporarily. So you basically have a guy who signed a pro contract, played pro ball for 3 years, and then came back to college to make more money with NIL.

If he does ending up getting an injunction to continue to play college ball, it opens up Pandoras box for other pro athletes with remaining college eligibility to go back to college and play for big NIL bucks.

On a related note, Joey Aguilar at UT just removed himself from the Diego Pavia federal lawsuit and filed the same suit in chancery court here in Knoxville to play another year in college, which would be his 8th season. As expected, the local judge, who is a UT alum issued a restraining order and there will be a hearing for injunction in a couple weeks.

The NCAA has created a monster with the NIL and portal. If these injunctions happen, get ready for pro ballers with remaining eligibility to come back to college.
