That makes sense. It seems to me the term is getting overworked.

What is the definition of a bust anyway? To me it would be a player drafted in either rd1 or maybe rd2 that just is not an NFL caliber player and is cut.

A couple that come to mind are Zo Zo Jackson. Everybody loved him but he just didn't belong. Jamain Stephens was another that just did not transition. And of course that OLB Huey Richardson that was drafted in 1991 I don't remember if he made it out of the training camp.

The past few years Ziggy Hood took a lot of heat. Many used the bust word on him. Me, I wasn't too thrilled with his play but did not think he was a bust.

I suppose there were others and now the current OLB J. Jones is under fire. I would expect that if doesn't make the final 53 this year he would be put on the bust list. Hmm! [I just took a look at past Steelers drafts and yeah, I suppose you can find a few.]

But I think we can conclude that Troy Polamalu was not one of them and anyone that thought he would be one was just a bit off target.[being polite]:smiley1:

On the original board, I remember a few "bust" comments. But mostly from perpetually negative nellies anyway. I don't think there was a lot of people saying that. Just a few people saying it loudly and ad nauseum. I was one to argue that you can't call a rookie a bust.

You cant call a rookie a bust until he starts, troy had no starts in 03 so he never had a chance to get into the feel of an NFL game: For sure in 04 as a 16 game starter he got the chance to say, How do you like me now, with 5 picks and 96 tackles, 67 solos, he made up for that rookie year in spades, tim lewis was the bust for not starting him, and he was heads above slow mo lee flowers when he was in, and he still had decent stats in spot duty with 2 sacks 1 forced fumble and 30 tackles.....

Does anyone remember that season during Troy's rookie year?

I believe the Steelers overall weren't that good, and that was one of the worst years for our Secondary as a whole. NONE of our DB's were making plays. It wasn't just him.

Actually, towards the end of that year, Troy had a few knocked down passes , which showed he was improving and getting better. So in someways he was one of the only players in our Secondary making plays that year.

...that is pretty much what I remember.

I voted no, but probably should have abstained, as I don't have much of a recollection. Early 2003, I had 3 kids in diapers, including new born twins, so I don't really remember my thoughts on the pick. Though, I usually give each player a few years and don't second guess the FO, as they know much more than me.

I had no doubt that he would be a solid player for us..... what I didn't know was that we had a future hall of famer

I feel similar to this . I did expect him to be above average , but no where near the player he turned out to be .

I was more p!ssed that we traded up that far for Troy..... when KC took Larry Johnson in our spot..... Personally I thought LJ would have been the right pick..... that's the only reason I make my draft picks behind the anonymity of a computer screen.... :roflmao: For a couple years LJ was proving me right, then he just disappeared.
