The exact same thing happened in the Titans/Dolphins game last night. Huntley wasn't expecting the ball when the Dolphins center hiked it and it was around a 15 yard loss. However the refs called it a pre snap penalty on the guard so it was First and 15 instead of a disastrous Second and 25. The refs on Sunday should have given the Steelers a 5 yard penalty and it could have been the difference in the outcome of the game.

Coming from WVU, I don’t know how many games Frazier played indoors and had to rely on the silent count. He will learn. Costly mistake? Yes. Something that can be corrected? Yes. Kid is going to be very good

Yup. One of the defenders grabbed Fields's facemask and pulled on the tackle, too. Getting either of those calls right would have given the Steelers a reprieve. the facemask would have had them damn near field goal range, but the refs blew it on both.

we all need to recognize that this ENTIRE offense is NEW and YOUNG. on the road, LOUD, playing hurry up offense.

the real IDIOTS on offense Sunday were Najee (not getting out of bounds) and Pickens (dumb fumble).

this DEFENSE needs to be DOMINANT or we will lose 10 games.

The CBA has severely limited practice time since Bill Walsh was the coach, and really restricted full speed padded practice times. They're literally not allowed to really practice.

Only 14 fully padded practices are allowed for the entire season. Gee..I wonder why no one can tackle anymore?

I said that it is on the Coaches to get the players prepared to execute. Players do indeed have to do it themselves obviously. However, if the execution is lacking from the players, that onus is on the Coaches.

Again, no. If the players don’t execute that’s on them. This isn’t HS or college. They are paid professionals.

If the plan is bad then that is on the coaches. I thought the first quarter was an atrocious plan both offensively and defensively. The coaches do not get a pass for that.

However, adjustments were made and I saw players in place to make plays on both sides of the ball. Dropped passes, missed blocking assignments, missed holes, wrong routes, missed tackles, fumbles, and dropped interceptions are 100% on the players. These guys make a lot of money, they don’t get a pass just because people don’t like the coach.

I really don’t understand what coaches do anymore…. Isn’t Pat Meyer coaching/teaching blocking technique to the OL (I keep reading about it)?

didn’t they hire Joey Porter a while back to coach/teach LB’s how to play LB?

don’t they have a DB coach helping DBs improve how they cover?

what do all of these positional coaches actually do during practices? Do they just tell the players where to line up as per the playbook? Or do they actually help players improve their play?

I hadn't seen this replay yet. McCormick did see the signal from Fields and tap Frazier, so it wasn't Frazier's fault. He did what he was told to do. Fields was right. It was his fault.

Qb lifting leg is universal sign on the road to snap ball. Me and you the only 2 to see it though.
Never qbs fault… everyone since preseason wants to blame the center.

Its a small miracle that Pickens doesn’t have more fumbles. Instead of tucking he is palming the ball with one hand constantly. He did it later in game too

Who's giving them a pass?! I sure as hell am not! Pickens fumble ended up looming far larger than the attempted comeback by Fields. For that matter, even if the Steelers were to only get three points from that drive, Pittsburgh would have still won.

My point is that the Offense, as a whole, has been painfully slow to start since 2021. How so?! Players have been consistent in their messaging; not enough details and not enough focus. Players are to be detailed and focus before games.

It is the Coaches who must instill both on a week to week basis. If not?! This past Sunday is nothing more than a series of examples.

It wasn't the signal for Frazier. It was the signal to the left guard. The tap by McCormick was the signal to Frazier. Most of us didn't see that on the initial replay that was out there. It looked like he hadn't tapped him and he was still looking back at Fields. Only the newer angle shows that McCormick did tap Frazier, which is why I say Fields was clearly at fault now.

I see NFL defenders diving into the ground like gophers for no apparent reason instead of making serious tackle attempts on the regular now.

The slow start is due to Tomlins philosophies and relentless pursuit to run the ball and not make the necessary changes. He had to abandon the run with Harris earlier when it was not working and evidently it was not against the Colts. Perhaps Tomlin is too stubborn to make changes? We have now seen what Fields can do so let's open up the playbook and stop looking so damn predictable. Protecting the ball and hoping JF does not make mistakes is not game plan that is going to work.

When exactly should the Steelers have abandoned the run? The Steelers' first good drive of the game came late in the second quarter, the one that ended with the fumble by Pickens. They ran the ball six times for 47 yards to get the ball to the Colts' 15 on that drive. If you want to ague that they should have stopped running Harris sooner, that's fair because I don't think he is 100 percent. He had his arm in a sling at the beginning of last week and did not run as well as he had in previous games, so maybe they should have leaned on Patterson from the start, but the opportunities to run were there despite all the shuffling up front.

Of course, they lost Patterson on that drive. I think Daniels went down on that one, too. Once they were both out, the running game disappeared entirely. I think the loss of Daniels was the bigger deal, but I could be wrong.

It looks like you edited the post after I responded. Look at the version I quoted. Harris's name isn't in it. I responded to a post saying that they should have abandoned the run sooner, not just the run with Harris.

It happens. I got back and edit my posts after clicking post reply all the time. I realize there is something I left out or some area in which I could have been clearer.

Bottom line. The team ( JF) looked entirely different when they needed the points and there was a sense of urgency. I have an idea. Play like there is a sense of urgency from the start of the game.

That is a different story. Yes, it might have been more effective if Fields had been more aggressive from the beginning, but that approach also brings sloppy mistakes, too. It has been that way in the past with Fields and Sunday against the Colts, he lost a fumble and was apparently at fault for the botched snap on the final drive. Both of those seem to be cases of him trying to do too much.

Exactly. He was worse in Chicago, but that does not appear to be the case bad snaps aside. They must come out and show what they can do in the first half. 3 points at half-time is embarrassing and not indicative of what we have in JF. 312 yards 52 rushing and 3 TDs is proof he is ready for more.
