Neither is a good passer, but Jackson does have better wheels. That's why he was a no. 1 pick and Dobbs a no. 4 pick. I'm sure if the Steelers or anybody else were given a choice between the two who they would take, and it would not be Dobbs. Not sure where you get Dobbs is a proven pocket passer.

A couple less drops that were good passes and Hodges would have led the qbs in passing yards.

Proven? When did Dobbs do that? You mean like when he carved up a lousy Raiders D last year?

Youre free to like Dobbs all you want, and maybe you're right that Dobbs will ultimately show that he's a better passer than Lamar Jackson, put Josh Dobbs hasn't proven very much yet. Not even that he can be a reliable NFL #2.

How many back up QB's carve up NFL defenses? The expectations for back up QB's are unreal by some of you.

Dobbs is a better passer than Jackson who is flat out awful.

When did he carve up the Raiders D? he was 4 of 9 passing in that game for 24yds......
    https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/D/DobbJo00/gamelog/2018/

Dobbs has literally had 1 moment in the NFL and that was his single attempt in the Ravens game where he threw a 22yd pass to I believe JuJu when they were in their own end zone. Otherwise he hasn't done jack.

As far as the Dobbs vs Jackson debate they are roughly equal when it comes to passing ability I think. Jackson definitely has better wheels though.

For once, I agree with you. Dobbs is not as awful as people claim around here. He lacks experience, but he could be a good backup in the mold of Batch and Leftwich.

as fans..we are looking at this right now as WHO we want to be our future QB...can you imagine the pressure these guys are under?.. It's not just "next man up" for them..its the possibility of NOT making 28-35 million on their next STARTER contract.... because right now its not about what have you done for me lately..its just becoming the norm....One of these guys will out earn Big Ben even if they never win a SuperBowl...

I'll give you 1000 to 1 that both of their NFL earnings will not equal Ben's.

batch and lefty were starters prior to coming here. Dobbs is not in the mold of those two. Hodges looked more like Ben in his first NFL action then Dobbs or mason even did in theirs. No I'm not saying hes Ben like. It just didn't look like it was too big for the kid. Small sample size but the kid hung in the pocket, moved around when he needed to and put the ball on the receivers. Very impressive. At this point, if they let him out of the building without further hard looks they are foolish. We may have stumbled on our offensive Mike hilton. That's a lot after one game I know but a very impressive showing in game one and camp so far. This is year 3 for dobbs. The kid has more poise and pocket presence.

Hodges is better than Dobbs. Mason is better than Both. eye test show Hodges and mason can be quality starters in the NFL... so far. No i don' think either will amount to Ben's level.

If Hodges outplays Dobbs these next 3 games, the Steelers are going to have a tough decision to make. I hope they don't think that they can sneak Hodges on the practice squad because he would be claimed very quickly. Probably by a team up in Foxboro.

I agree with you Blast he is a much better Passer than Jackson. Now I don't expect a Nick Foles type of performance from a backup but I do expect them to move the ball. The coaching staff did Dobbs no favors in that Raider game. They could have unleashed him on that defense and he could have shined but they didn't and the opportunity was lost as well as the game.

I’ll take that bet for $1. Since their careers could last 18 more years, please contact my estate.

Yes, even Batch had said the coaches didn't open the playbook to him.

They played it safe thinking they could hold the lead.

Thats a game I definitely think they lost due to coaching, both for how they handled Dobbs and more so because Ben probably could have come in sooner.

With Mason starting on Saturday now we can see how he fares vs starters mixed in. He has pretty much played vs backups.

I didn't read the whole thread, but when we were at training camp a few weeks ago, Rudolph looked far superior to Dobbs. It wasn't really even close.

I thought Hodges looked pretty good with some good potential in last weeks preseason game.

I am not sure Ben's long term heir is even on the team yet. We are talking backing ups in case of Ben not being able to play. That's it. No backups have proven d!ck as far as I am concerned. I wouldn't be surprised if we went after a QB in the 1st round next year if, heaven forbid, Ben was done playing due to sustaining a career ending injury this year. Or possibly a free agent signing. Could Dobbs or MR or Hodges end up being our franchise QB? Sure, but all are a long ways away from making me confident that we have one on the team at this point.

I'd like to see Rudolph start with JuJu, Moncrief and Washington. JuJu probably won't play until Ben plays.
