Interior DL is 75% of the problem with the defense, IMO. After Heyward, there's mediocrity at best. And Heyward is a non-factor vs the better teams, aka... Eagles, Ravens and Chiefs.

If I was Terrell Austin and Myer OL coach I would start
Looking for jobs. Someone is going to take the fall. And it won't be MT

95% of the problem is awful coaching. These issues were here since Lebeau retired. They're just more magnified now due to how much is invested in the defense.

In fairness, LeBeau’s zone blitz was carved up by the high end QB’s.

Is Tomlin really calling the plays though? I don’t see him with a call sheet in his hands like some head coaches. Having said that, I would agree that Tomlin has to be accountable for his coordinators or other subordinate coaches.

I agree about Heyward. He has been a warrior but has been getting handled now late in the season. Our D Line is getting gashed. So where are the ILBers as well? Secondary is putrid. And when you have complaints coming out of the defensive players this late in the season their is trouble.

I can see Austin getting the gate. They need to hire a defensive coordinator(not a puppet and should have kept Flores) and allow him to call the shots with his defense. Let Tomlin just be the head coach.

The scheme or lack there of is maddening. Its Tomlins scheme. And its not working. But the Magoo's will beg to differ...

I will take your word for it - fair point.

I guess in my mind, I don’t think Tomlin is like an Andy Reid or Sean Peyton, who is calling plays in regularly (and is clearly in the driver seat).

The issue with the defense is we have not been able to get pressures on the QB. It's not something we are doing or are not doing, however frustrating that is. Our defense revolves around our pass rush. Because of that, offense get the ball out quicker vs us, and schemes plays designed to beat aggressive pas rushers. This is not a new thing just now being used in the NFL. For most of this season the Steelers defense has held offenses to under 20 points. In these last 3 games(11 days), they allowed 27(6th ranked Eagles), 34(1st ranked Ravens), and 29(13th ranked Chiefs). The sky is not falling and the Steelers are not dying. Let's see how we do vs the Bengals and whomever we match up against in the wildcard round of the playoffs.

This x 1 million. And this why I wanted Steelers to switch to 4-3 after loss to Rodgers/Packers in XLV. Ravens and Giants were able to own Rodgers and Brady on a regular basis.

And yes, Ravens ran a hybrid 3-4, 4-3 with Suggs who could play DE and OLB.

That means nothing every now and then he has a small playsheet but he doesn't make all the calls.

In simple terms a lot of teams have better players then us and when they don't the Steelers have a way of making them look way better then they are. Why don't we dominate weak ass teams and have a game where we can relax in the 4th qtr.???

I was. I've been saying the D sucks and just riding the turn-over luck since the Cowboys game when the D gave up 9 minute drives over and over in the second half.

I had a long ass, frustrating, debate going with STD when he was claiming Steelers D is best in the league.

It's just you and other homers don't want to really read what people say on here and rather just throw stupid emoticons as responses.

Oh another thing, one reason people don't point out negative truths after wins is because the homer crowd starts trolling with "nothing ever makes you happy?", "why are you a fan if you're not happy?" over and over again.

The homer trolls are like Russian social media bots here to stop proper debate.

Nah, they were playing pretty good up until then holding most of their opponents under 20 PPG.

I did post about the flaws of the defense earlier in the season.

But hey, players are finger pointing and the media is calling out coaches so everything is just OK. I think you need to continue playing the trumpet as the Titanic is sinking.

there was PLENTY of criticism, but the mouth breathers just ignored it.

recall my post after the Dolts defeat, that the Defenders thought it was a Bye Week? Of course you don't because you are Kool Aid Tomlin drinker. I have said ALL SEASON LONG that this D is playing FAR BELOW the TOP PAID defense in the league,

    that:
    1) Minkah owes money back,
    2) there is no Blitzburgh, that too died with LeBeau leaving
    3) all MT waits for is for a strip sack

while at the same time, I acknowledge that there are TALENTED PLAYERS EVERYWHERE.

We are falling FAR SHORT. that TOO is on Tomlin!

Meyer’s contract I believe expires at the end of this season
