Winning football is about controlling the line of scrimmage.

The Steeler offensive line is pathetic. It likely may be bottom 5 in the NFL. Bottom 3 possibly.

Kendrick Green was a terrible pick. Humphrey was the correct pick and they blew it. He's playing very well in KC.

The DL outside of Heyward is terrible.

Najee is very good, but it was a dumb pick since they have no one to block for him.

Harris is averaging 18 yards per game more than Connor. Connor has 7 more rushing TDs and 0.2 more yards per carry.

Najee is a better receiver. Great, he's got 1 more receiving TD and 9 more receiving first downs.

Is that really good draft value?

OL stinks. Taylor, Henry, Cook. None would be any good in Pittsburgh.

Disagreement but have nothing to refute the post.

So the offensive line isn't bottom 5 in the NFL?
So the defensive line aside from Heyward is good?

So Connor doesn't have 7 more rushing TDs, 1 fewer receiving TD, 0.2 ypc more and only 18 ypg less?

Just because the message isn't liked - doesn't make it incorrect. Unfortunately, there are way too many people on this board who simply look past reality because they don't like what it really is.

World is full of those type of people, they're usually press secretaries, media members or political consultants.

Regardless of what they did in the offseason they weren’t going to be contenders this year IMO. The offensive line was never going to fixed in one offseason, albeit Humphrey over Green would be a massive improvement from what we have seen.

Re the line the cap reduction meant that they had to let Feiler, Decastro and Villanueva go, then Banner gets injured, Dotson and Turner have missed games etc. Dotson was sorely missed last night because Haeg is nowhere near starter quality and he got owned.

Then on defence Watt, Alualu & Tuitt all missing. How do you expect them to control the line of scrimmage when you are missing those guys?

No team can be expected to deal with the level of injuries they are dealing with and maintain performance. They are missing nearly half their presumed starters at this stage when you add it all up. Next man up is just a saying, injuries matter and the teams that make deep postseason runs and win super bowls are usually the healthiest, eg Tampa in 2020, fully healthy and rolling going in to the postseason.

Im not entirely disagreeing with you btw, just stating that there are other reasons that they are struggling besides perceived suboptimal offseason decisions.

People are dug in with this Najee thing, won't admit it was the wrong pick for a long time, if ever. The most disappointing thing is that the organization thought this was the best plan to win a Super Bowl this year - pick a RB and two mid round OL, and basically keep the rest of the RB room + career stiff Ballage.

I don't think the org thought that at all, otherwise they wouldn't have burned $25M of next year's cap on voidable years deals.

People on either side of the argument won’t know the answer to that until more time has passed. If by the end of next season and the line and run game are much improved, is it still a mistake in your eyes?

If they win a Super Bowl with a Najee-centric offense, I'll admit I was wrong. That's the goal, not just "establishing the run" or playing "Stiller smash-mahth football n'at".

I don't see that in the near future with the rebuild on the horizon.

How’s that? They set out to improve the run game and line, if they do that, mission accomplished.

If KC doesn’t win the SB this year, Humphrey was a wasted pick?

Why did you suddenly limit the argument to "this year"? Lol.

But no, he's part of the long term foundation of that team. Najee is going to be burnt out in 4-5 years, if not sooner.

Lol, knew you were going to say that, could have been next year, too. :lolol:

My one argument about Harris and it wasn’t about him at all but the position, is that you want your 1st rd pick to be there for 10 years, contract stuff aside.

Najee is a big guy, anyone built to buck the RB trend would be him. We’ll see.

Exactly. Although we're on a trend of not doing that at any position - Jarvis, Shazier, Artie, Bud, soon to be Edmunds and Bush. Gonna catch up with them if it already hasn't.

The Offensive Line stinks unless they are protecting Ben, opening lanes for Najee, giving Ben more time. These things they do on more of a consistant basis then not. Of course the negative will be magnified. It's a total rebuild on this line.

    Lets take the last 2 plays where Ben was bull rushed. He is a QB who has seen it all but couldn't recognize this was going to happen? And call a quick out? Or change the play and run the ball? Or throw it away (I know that happens 1% of the time}

And the whole Najee argument is quite old. The kid is a stud running back. And was the right pick.

The play calling, Ben led to that last chance stinker.

Its the Defense who gave that one away. Mike Williams out of mothballs for the win.

The org have said repeatedly that their aim is to put the best team possible on the field every year. They don’t tank or accept down years with the aim of getting better draft picks or stockpiling cap room. That’s their philosophy for better or worse.

Whether they genuinely thought they could be SB contenders I honestly can’t say.

I would add that if they hadn’t had such a crazy run of injuries throughout the season they could conceivably be 7-3 or better right now in a middling AFC with no standout team. Their approach really wasn’t that crazy IMO

Every team deals with injuries, if Russ Wilson plays and Baker isn't mangled when we play him, we might have only 3 wins.

So, Seattle absolutely sucked when Russell Wilson was hurt. They would have beat us if he played.
Why is injuries on other teams an excuse, but when half our defense is out it's because Tomlin Sucks?

In all honesty my first read through my thought jumped right to "this season " which would be a pretty high bar to clear.

so many people here are quick to judge..... you can't evaluate a player based on one single season. I like the Najee pick but understand that patience is required to allow other players develop. sheesh, go grab a beer and relax a little.

Yea of course every team has injuries, and you factor it in as best you can by trying to build depth but the fact remains they have had very little luck on the injury front with Tuitt, Alualu, Banner and Juju effectively out for the season, then they had the Decastro injury (leading to his unplanned release), all the soft tissue injuries that have seen so many guys miss time, Dotson now on IR, then you had Ingram wanting out etc.

Very few teams have dealt with as much as the Steelers have. They had eight or nine starters missing the two recent games including one of the best players in the league, that’s a bit more than the usual level of attrition. No team in the NFL would be able to sustain that and keep winning.

To win a Super Bowl you need a bit of injury luck and basically you need your best guys out there. You can’t base your offseason and personnel plans around entire units being wiped out for weeks at a time, and the fact that that is what has happened is not a vindication for those that want to point to perceived flaws in team building philosophy. It’s just bad luck, plain and simple.

Coming back to my point, their offseason plan wasn’t that bad. This is a decent roster if most of the best guys are on the field, which they haven’t been unfortunately.

I guess you haven't watched baker ,and Wilson play since they been back apparently. We may have won even bigger now.

So, Seattle and Cleveland didn’t deal very well with their injuries then.

    Terrific self own.

Funny the PFF crew just put out their Mid Season All Pro team and guess who the only KC Cheif player to make the squad was?

    Mahomes.... Nope
    Kelce.... Nope

How about who the Steelers should have drafted in the 2nd round... Creed Humphries... Yep

Guess most of the fans were right about wanting to take the best center available in the draft when the Steelers were on the Clock in the 2nd. A Najee / Creed one two punch would have looked really good about now.

half our defense wasn't out against Cincy. We've had two horrible defensive games the last two weeks. Over 80 points scored against us. It's about guys not knowing their assignments. It's about Bush refusing to give the effort to get off a block and make a play. It's about missed tackles over and over. That's what this is about. I have been ambivalent about Tomlin to this point. EVERY SINGLE COACH OUTSTAYS HIS WELCOME AT SOME POINT. He is simply not effective as a head coach any longer. He cannot hire good assistants. He has been a great coach and now it's time for him to move on so we can get someone to breathe new life into this team. But we're stuck with him for the next three years minimum. On we go
