This isn’t true. It’s just not. There is no avenue for a PS player to be active on game day without taking one of the active 53 spots on the roster. The rule you’re referencing only has to do with their contract. There is no purgatory where a PS player is active, yet not on the 53 man roster.

 

Practice squad Game Day elevations have nothing to do with the 53-man roster.

Are practice squad players able to play in games?
As stated above, teams can elevate two players each week to the active roster for game day. But those elevations are limited to three per player before they must be added to the active roster or released from the practice squad.

Otherwise, practice squad players only practice with the team.

 

I know people will want to rip him tonight, but I thought he did alright, given the crappy situations the coaching staff put him in.
