Exactly. Resting your starters is not the same as intentionally impacting the outcome of the game. It's smart (according to some) to rest your starters for the playoff push, especially when your seed will be the same with a win or a loss.

The Steelers and their fans have no one to blame missing the playoffs on but the team. No one.

looking at how they played with the colts at home maybe they need some rest , the backups should play for the job and be more motivated

They have nothing to play for. Just remember, Rah Rah Rivers has a pick laden meltdown game in him.

A Steeler win will close the season on the upswing.

Absolutely correct! Even if they do finish with a flurry, when you lose to crappy teams like the Raiders, Titans, Vikings and let the sunshine boys have their way with you in the snow, you don't deserve the playoffs, period!

Nonesense. Miami, San Diego, Baltimore all lost to some crappy teams. So I guess the Nfl should just forfeit 6th seed in the AFC...

Also, no team wants to see pittsburgh when they sneak into the playoffs. It will be the talk of the season and they will make noise!!!

If the Steelers were in the same position the last thing that I would want to see is Ben or Troy tearing an ACL/MCL over a meaningless game.
Heck, I would even try to see if I could put them up in the cozy press box with Dan and Art II.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I hope we sneak in. But I'm so ticked off that we started 0-4, came out flat and uninspired, as we always seem to, in meaningful games and LOST to teams we should have beaten that I just don't think we deserve it. And now they've decided here at the end of the season to start playing some football and get everybody's hopes up. Hey, I'm glad we haven't laid down and quit like some other teams have, but unfortunately it's TOO LITTLE TOO LATE!!!

I hate it when teams rest their starters for the playoffs. Fans pay really good money to go watch their team play and the teams should put their best product on the field each week period. There are fans in those stadiums where it is the only game they will ever get to see their team play and they don't even get to see their favorite players play. Resting your starters is a cynical action that goes against the ideals of competition that these teams purport to uphold. Hiding behind the fact that all teams do it does not lesson the fact that it cheapens the game and should not be tolerated.

Fans pay good money for preseason games too and barely see any starters.

The NFL isn't solely about the ideals of competition anymore, it's a business and resting your starters in meaningless games is good business sense.

I guess Andy is okay with going into the playoffs on a couple of game losing streak. No problem.

Now when it comes to us and the playoffs, I expect nothing less than this team doing their best. If they make it....great, if not I want us to do our best no matter what. If that happens, I will be okay with it.

Ben told ESPN he is OK with teams resting starters since Pitt did it in 04 and 07 after they locked up a playoff spot....

So should I just walk around asking to talk to an 8-year old that is going to a game where his favorite player is going to be rested because it is a meaningless game?

I'll be back. This is going to take a while.
