Artie Burns!!!

Artie Burns was a great pick despite of where various media outlets had him going in the draft. I have much more faith in the proven track record of Kevin Colbert and co. and the Steelers organisation than any media outlet. Kevin Colbert has averaged the # 23 pick since he's been here, he knows how to evaluate talent as evidence by the Steelers success.
They picked someone who is mentally tough. He won't get discouraged the way Cortez Allen did when he did bad and I think they made it a point to draft someone who is very head strong and confident, which Artie Burns is. Artie burns had six interceptions as a junior after starting only one season as a sophomore. This guy's arrow is pointed way up. He is very fast and has very fluid hips. He is aggressive at the line of scrimmage and has the will to be an aggressive tackler. He is tall, long, and really good ball skills. Like i said, despite what round a media outlet had him going, the Steelers know better afterall their the organization who has most superbowls, the organization who averages a #23 pick and still is the best AFC north team. Trust the scouts the steelers employee and not who the media does.

 

I suspect this duplicate thread will, as it should die a silent death but not for me. A day late but can this be the official Artie Burns slurp thread? I, as I said, love his name, it sounds old fashioned and has echoes of the civil war.

 

You do understand their scouting of db's is what should I say skeptical? Here is hoping Sean Davis and Artie Burns are keepers and can be productive
early and contribute early.

The Steelers took the top CB left on their draft board, I have no problem with the pick of Burns at #25. I'm glad they passed on Mackensie Alexander, I knew they weren't too interested in him too short and lack of production.

I thought both Artie Burns and Sean Davis were excellent picks. I doubt the steelers were gonna go with WJ3 if he fell to the 25th pick, Especially with their age difference.

Not only that, but their skillset as well. While WJ III is the better cover corner, Artie is the better overall corner. More physical, just as agile, and just as aggressive.

Watched 2 of Burns games back through and I don't see the problems tackling I space that have been brought up frequently.

Especially for his build his tackling in space seems satisfactory, he needs to add size thought and I'm sure not running track all spring will help that endeavor

 

But the Steeler weight room will.

Pittsburgh Steelers first-round cornerback Artie Burns was bound to cover Antonio Brown at some point in offseason workouts. He got his chance Thursday.

He went 1-for-2 on isolated matchups.

After Thursday's session, Burns detailed his work against Brown, including Brown's goal-line touchdown on a counter move and Burns' pass breakup on a deep ball attempt to Brown.

Burns showed his recovery speed on the deep ball. He saw Brown streaking, so "I had to open up and run" to cover the post. He dove into the passing lane to knock the ball away.

Early in practice, however, he wasn't so lucky.

"He got me," Burns said. "I had bit on the slant. He went back out. He scored on me."

Brown, who returned to Pittsburgh late this week after the Dancing with the Stars finale, had faked inside, then flared toward the corner of the end zone.

On the deep ball, Burns said he could have intercepted the pass and taken it the other way if he made a move earlier. Ben Roethlisberger missed Thursday's session, so backups Landry Jones and Bruce Gradkowski were throwing the ball most of the time. The ball was a little underthrown, but Burns made an aggressive play on it.

Burns said he had watched enough film to know Brown's speed was no joke, so he didn't underestimate it.

"You can't panic," Burns said about covering a top-flight receiver like Brown. "You always have to stay cool no matter what situation you're in. He came up on me fast. I just have to trust my eyes, trust my training. To be out here covering him, it helps my level of game rise up."

Burns, the 25th overall pick in last month's draft, played press man coverage at Miami to utilize his height (6-foot) and long arms. The Steelers can use him in press, but the construction of the defense requires him to play zone coverage and hold his backpedal longer downfield.

The style of play suits Burns, he said, adding the game isn't too fast for him.

"I'm getting adjusted to it," Burns said. "Now I'm learning technique, getting the scheme down, and now I have to master my craft."

Oh yeah, Burns wants to earn a starting job.

"I just want to be the best I can be," Burns said. "I want to start. That's what I'm working toward. I want to be the best in my class."

Seems to me that the quickest signers are usually those contribute less. Though im too lazy to back that up with any researcb right now.

 

Actually rookies sign fast since the rookie salary cap predetermines how much their contracts are worth, the only thing burns agent is waiting for is to see how much money WJ 111 gets up front from the bengals, I imagine Burns will sign a 4 year deal in the 10-12 million range before training camp, maybe Hargraves presents a problem from a physical or an off the field situation, because his contract will be for less than the 4.1 million 4 year deal they paid Sean Davis...........

 

I really hope theres no issue with Hargraves. That will just sting even if he is just a rookie at the end of the day.
