It gets even stranger when you read he was pulled over for a License plate tag that was suspended, this article states the reason why he was pulled over in the first place:

    from around the NFL:

According to the police report, an officer conducted a traffic stop on Burns, who was driving an SUV with a suspended Florida license plate tag. Burns was unable to produce a driver's license to the officer, who later determined Burns had his license suspended.

I'm sure his tags and license were suspended in Florida because of all the unpaid tickets. Pretty sure he had $1000 to take care of it before it got to that point. Now he knows I guess.

Yeah, nowadays it is an aberration if an NFL player gets arrested and the crime is not DWI, pot, an unlawful firearm, or beating up his girl.

Whew! I think he deserves a pat on the back.

how ridiculous is it going to be if he left the car in Florida for a friend or family member to use and these unpaid tickets were parking tickets that they didn't pay since they felt they didn't own the vehicle so it wasn't their responsibility.

The interest alone on one of Artie's checks is more than the cost of all his tickets, license fees, and even the cost of the car he was driving.

He is going to traffic court not criminal court for chris sakes, all they want in traffic court is fine money let his lawyer pay 3K in fines and get his driving privileges reinstated and learn a lesson, thats hardly a team distraction...

its still an arrest and driving 130 mph and failed to show for a mandatory court date and you usually don't spend the night in jail for a simple traffic ticket, for Christ sakes. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...limit/&usg=AFQjCNHDYhmj51jlIYVe8kGMjR64RSuyCw

    try again my friend. ;)

In Florida A recent study showed that those who hire an attorney who specializes in traffic tickets have a 60% win rate for speeding ticket offenses, giving you a huge positive boost in how your charges will play out. That said since he failed to show up in court I could see him getting a 1 year suspension and heavy fines, nothing more......

I can't find any confirmation of the 130-in-a-60 speeding part. Help?

I don't know Florida's fine scale, but $1000 in VA can be TWO tickets. And the mandated court appearance could mean merely the scheduled day for traffic court. Or worse, I grant you ... but folks seem to be reading the worst into every phrase.

His license was suspended in April (early, middle, late?) for the outstanding fines. (Not because of the violations.) If his mail is going somewhere he's not spending time recently -- like, say, FL instead of PA -- he might not have known of the suspension.

Funny, but I have gone 58 years without ever having been arrested or having my drivers license suspended.

    It ISNT "no big deal"...

I haven't had over a $1000 worth of traffic tickets in my life time and I'm more than twice his age. Get it together kid.

As you can see, the harshest civil remedial fee when added to the regular fees assessed when you are issued a reckless driving – speeding in excess of 80 mph ticket will cost you $3,000 + $400 (80 x $5) + $62 (court fees) = $3,462.00. It is likely that you will have your Virginia license suspended and spend some time in jail, too.

    LINK

He is lucky If he lived in Europe where traffic fines are based on income he would have to dig deep to pay his fine:

    Frank Jordans, Associated Press:
European countries are increasingly pegging speeding fines to income as a way to punish wealthy scofflaws who would otherwise ignore tickets.

Advocates say a $290,000 speeding ticket slapped on a millionaire Ferrari driver in Switzerland was a fair and well-deserved example of the trend.

Germany, France, Austria and the Nordic countries also issue punishments based on a person's wealth. In Germany the maximum fine can be as much as $16 million compared to only $1 million in Switzerland.

Never knew speeding fines were so high. Glad I drive an old car that nearly shakes the wheels off at about 70 MPH and nearly tachs out at anything above. Keeps me from speeding and getting pulled over. Then again, I'm always getting passed by people doing 90+. With the possible revenue generation from those fines, I'm surprised the law doesn't pull more people over for excessive speed.

What's funny is I'm on my second MINI and was even told I'd be a ticket magnet when I got my first one but I've yet to be pulled over. Yet when I had my crappy old Cavalier I got a ticket from a State Trooper doing 37 in a 25. Luckily, my mamaw called the judge and got me out of paying it because something so petty was gonna be over $100 I think.

    Two things here:
    1st:
...You should have been dead if that is what you blew

    2nd:
I know states are a little different but...from what I see, if he missed a court date and the court was for unpaid fines, that is why he was suspended. That suspension would have been ordered at the hearing he missed. People are notified of suspension but if they aren't checking mail, etc. he may not have realized he was suspended. Not an excuse in the eyes of the law but it does happen. This scenario plays out frequently, really not that big of a deal unless they become barred or revoked (or achieve habitual offender status)

I didn't think a MINI could go over 25 unless it is going down a steep hill. lol
