What are the chances that this guy is there at #48? #17 seems too high to draft an ILB and I think it could be difficult to trade back into late 1st/early 2nd because of the depth in this draft.

I think the guy has the tools to be a great ILB and the Steelers have some genuine interest in him. I know he's small, but that was the knock on Lavonte David last year and the guy had somewhere around 140 tackles in his rookie season.

Interested to hear some thoughts on Brown.

I don't think Brown gets out of round one, mostly because I think he could fit just about any defense... And with teams like Min, Chicago, Cincy, Stl, Balt all needing LB help after us I don't see him getting past all of em.

I personally love Brown, and don't think he'd be a reach at 17. Here is what I wrote in my last mock about him...

With Spence and Rolle, it seems lately that the FO is looking at athletic 4-3 guys to try to plug in next to Timmons. Not a bad idea considering how much pass defense is needed from these guys now. Tomlin and Colbert were apparently at the K.St pro day and wined and dined Brown afterwards. He's a very fast, sideline to sideline type linebacker. He's also said to love the game and have an incredible work ethic. I think we could trade down and grab him, but something tells me Tomlin's going to love this kid and wouldn't mind nabbing him at 17.

The more I read about Brown, the more I'm thinking I wouldn't mind him at #17, although for whatever reason I keep trying to talk myself out of it because he is an ILB. I guess that shouldn't matter though...this guy seems like he could be a beast at the next level.

I agree with your points about Spence and Rolle...they are smaller, more athletic guys that seem to have a nose for the football. It's a shame what happened to Spence, and I know we don't know exactly what we have in Rolle yet. If the coaches think Rolle can be a big contributor, then it's tough to use a first round pick on Brown. If they don't, Brown could be the guy.

Wasn't Butler involved in the wining and dining as well? If I recall correctly he was. Position coaches getting involved would seem to indicate a very strong interest.

I'm sure Butler was at the pro day, not sure about dinner. On your point with Rolle, at this point he's a camp body, and you don't change any plans you have because of him.

Butler was at the dinner with Tomlin and Colbert. Brown is a stud, and it wouldn't really be a reach to pick him at 17 IMO.

butler was very interested in burdette from UAB too. he's another spence, rolle clone. i'm not ruling rolle out what so ever. the kid can play.

i'm liking beauharnias too, from rutgers. kasheem greene gets most of the glory, but this kid can play. being from nearer PA. i'm sure they are well aware of him. i'm mixed on brown that high, but ya never know.

I would pass by Brown at #17, but at #48 you'd have to seriously consider him. However, I am starting to warm up to AJ Klein, who may be there when we pick in the 4th round, and will likely be there in the 3rd.

I wish Elvis... but Brown will be gone by the end of round 1. I've seen some say they have him as one of the top 10 most talented guys in thsi draft.

I personally don't see that. There are guys projected to go in the 30's that I think are better prospects, and better fit what we do - Jonathan Banks for one. He would be a nice fit at corner in our scheme. Also, if we spend a high pick on Brown it means that we have given up all hope of Spence recovering. I think they are very similar players, and I don't see room for both of them on the field at one time in our defense. There is some appeal to a guy like Brown because of his ability to cover guys like Aaron Hernandez and Dennis Pitta from an ILB position, but I think we would give up quite a bit in run defense by plugging him in there.

I agree with you on Spence, but at this point you have to plan as if he's never coming back. Even if he was completely 100% there was not guaranteeing he was our answer at the position.

If he comes back strong, then great, we can potentially trade one of them, or get creative with them in different spots. And you mentioned Spence and then bring up run D? Brown is better against the run than Spance IMO... and regardless those are the types that they're looking at. My guess is they think they can cover the guy up with the NT, and that Timmons is good enough against the run to help the other ILB out.

Hell no at #17 nobody has this guy going in the first round why would the Steelers reach that early. If they want him they should trade down.

His stock has climbed a lot over the last few weeks, and I've seen plenty of first round projections. Heck, Tony Pauline said he was "Ray Lewis the second".
