If they don’t keep Mason they will have to sign someone. I don’t see them drafting a QB when they are still all in on Kenny (which is probably a poor idea)

I don’t think Kenny will be the starter for the Steelers for long. Hopefully they won’t way until we’re in a deep hole again. I they don’t keep Mason as the backup/ starter QB they are nuts. Bringing in a new QB that doesn’t know our system is really putting us behind the 8 ball.

Good. Of course, that doesn't really mean anything. They need 3 QBs and very likely won't draft one (unless they take one late in the draft hoping to get lucky). Mason is not under contract and Mitch sucks. One or both of them could be elsewhere. They need to be exploring every possibility in FA and trade.

Speaking of which, I was in favor of adding Mitch on the cheap two years ago to see if he had changed/improved. They needed someone to play while KP got acclimated and were (probably wrongfully) down on Mason. When it was painfully obvious that Trubs still sucked though, which happens, whatever, but why in the Hell did they extend him? Awful decision.

I’m sort of warming up to the idea of Justin Fields but really would not want the Steelers to give up a first round draft pick for him. If we could get him for a second round pick (and maybe a third rounder in 2025) that might be okay. I still want the Steelers to re-sign Mason but if they can’t, Fields may be a good option to come in and provide legitimate competition for Kenny.

Well, mister…if you want to get technical about it, he said “we’re not closing the door on anything” in response to a question about whether or not the Steelers would consider trading for a quarterback. “Anything” would be inclusive of trading for a quarterback so in the most technical sense he did say that he wouldn’t close the door on trading for a quarterback.

Oh I'm sorry. Trubisky 2.0 ...with more pigments, and faster legs.
Think of where all the most athletic Qb are watching the SB this week from....the couch.

Is that the story you are going with

“Anything” would be inclusive of trading for a punter

So how is that theory working out :smiley1:

And I wasn’t being technical I was being accurate

There is no reason to close the door on a trade. KFP and Trubisky are the only QB's on the roster and Trubisky is likely getting cut. Kenny has a large number of starts, very little success, and has been extremely injury prone throughout the process. I'd be super hype for a QB trade and we would instantly be better with Fields starting in Kenny's stead. Fields just might not be good enough to be a top 10 QB in the league so we would be committing to getting fairly average QB play (albeit average would be a massive upgrade to what we have gotten from QB's not named Rudolph the past 2 years) and hoping that a better organization/better weapons makes the difference for him.

I like the idea of keeping all options open. I don’t know who we could realistically get in a trade that would immediately be a game changer …. I don’t think it is Fields.

My long shot hope was Herbert would want to get out of Chargers org, but that seems unlikely.

Derek Carr perhaps? Maybe his best years are behind him?

Outside of Tomlin being a big fan of Fields I’m not sure there is any other reason to bring him in. Doesn’t seem the type of QB Smith would want, he ran almost no RPO’s in Atlanta. I’d have to look up how many designed runs but I don’t think a lot of those either.

I think if Wislon were to be cut, he might be someone they would target. Problem with him is, is he washed?

It's OK @steelersrule6.... most disagreed when I said Trubisky was a bad move. Only one team I watch in the NFL... almost as much as I watch the Steelers, and that's the Chicago Bears.....ever notice....that's who I always get when we do the draft. The Bears have weapons....they just don't have a good enough Qb....the organization is terrible at picking Qbs. Fields has 30 ints, and 38 fumbles in just 38 games.....that's on nobody but the Qb. That's the production You want to bring here. That's like a guaranteed fumble, and an Int every game.
I repeat 30 ints, and 38 fumbles in 38 games.
    No freaking thank You.

Some around here leave me scratching my head with wanting Fields! If he was so good why would da Bears give up on him? Plus you are exactly right about him being a turnover machine. Its a wonder some arent blaming the OC for it !
