I personally want Haley. He has roots with the Steelers, he has a lot of experience, he is a great play caller, and he won't be afraid to coach Ben.

Here is the article from stelersdepot.com showing who they think the canidates would be.

    http://www.steelersdepot.com/2012/01/lo ... ce-arians/

The biggest thing is i hope we don't hire one of our own. That could put us in the same situation we have been in with Ben dictating what happens on offense. We need Ben to shut his mouth, be a team player, and grow under a new coach.

I like Haley. I hope we don't go Fichtner or Caldwell as it would be more of the same underachieving. I doubt Fichtner could impose his will on BR and Caldwell is just not a good coach. He got handed the keys to a Lambourghini and drove it off a cliff. MT got handed the keys to a sportscar as well, and even though he hasn't driven it off a cliff, he has backed into the garage door a few times and gotten the doors dinged up in the supermarket parking lot . Haley has a lot to prove after his atrocious HC stint in KC and he would have a lot more talent here to use.

There you go, that's a fresh new name that's served with a great offensive program. I like it.

Good discussion here about the options:

    http://www.steelersdepot.com/2012/01/lo ... ce-arians/

Someone in the comments also mentioned Brad Childress who was the one who gave Mike his first Coordinator job. I like Tom Clements, but not sure he wants to leave GB. Hue Jackson I think should also be looked at, but I think his changes may be pretty drastic to the offense.

What's up with Norv Turner? Is he getting fired or what?

I know he'd probably only be here for a year before getting hired to be a HC again, if he doesn't get that this year... but I'd still take a good look at him if he's available.

Boy, I am not in love with any of the guys on that list. Clements has a great history of success as a QB coach, but no experience as an OC. Fichtner seems like another version of Arians, so I doubt the Rooneys will go for that (although Ben will lobby for him). I'm generally wary of Hue Jackson for some reason. I know he had success there as an OC without much for a QB, but still... Oakland...

I want Haley or Hugh Jackson. I think Jackson and Haley would both fix our running game while keeping Ben in line.

Clements makes me nervous. I don't want him to come here thinking we can have the same system as GB has. Ben is not Aaron Rodgers and I don't want Clements to try to make us similar to GB. We just don't have the talent at QB to perform like that. We need to run the ball, use PA, use short passes, use our TE's, use our RB's in the passing game, etc.

Actually Clements was an OC for 2 years in Buffalo under Mike Mularkey.

Thanks for that. I assumed if he was one then it would be on that list of OC qualifications!

I think you underestimate Ben. I'm not saying he's as good at throwing as Rodgers, but with time to throw the ball and the weapons he has, with a good OC I don't see why we shouldn't have an offense like GB/NO/NE. Ben is an extremely talented pocket passer when he has his head screwed on right. He's not the kid he was in '05 anymore.

It doesn't matter who the new OC will be, if they don't fix the o-line the board will be screaming to fire the new guy because there isn't going to be a running game with the current line up on the line. Can you guess how long any of the backs are going to last running behind Foster or Scott? On another note I'm glad he is gone and I hope David Johnson goes to, hybrid TE/FB joke, he was scared of contact. The funniest part is going to be when everyone turns on the new OC after a loss in which the team only score a single TD and 2 FGs, but I guess that will be chalked up to a new system....

He was almost perfect all of 2010 (except the Super Bowl, of course), and except for a couple games in 2011 (mostly after his injury, plus week 1) he was fantastic for most of 2011. And that's just recently. In 2009 he was even better, and we all know how he did in 2008, especially in the playoffs...

My point was that he sometimes has a terrible game for one reason or another. Usually an injury is involved (SF). But overall he's fantastic. I can't believe with our weapons and our defense and Ben at QB, there are people who think we aren't capable of passing like an elite passing offense. Pass protection and an OC were all we ever needed. The protection is coming (hopefully), and we're halfway to getting a new OC.

I'm not saying pass, pass, pass. We have an awesome stable of running backs and some very good run blockers on this team. Pouncey and Colon are great, and Gilbert has potential. That's Foster's strong suit as well. What I want is for us to finish plugging those holes in the OL so that we can run at will like Houston does, and have a better passing attack too. If we could get that running game going like Houston's, we'd be unstoppable.

We are definately capable of being a top passing offense, but in order to do so we must not be so predictable. Runs alwasy on first down, then no back and 5 wide. Mix up the pay calls. Incorporate some passes in run situation or from run formations and the runs in pass situations or out of run formations. A better run game will help the play action pass game (we had a killer play action pass game in 2004 and 2005). Bn must learn to recogniz matchups pre snap and go there, not to just rely on extending the play.

Now to clarify on my comments earlier about Ben...

Ben is a solid qb at times and its very tough but..

Ben is selfish, Ben doesn't care about the city of Pittsburgh or wiining championships for the steelers. He would rather his own recognition and stats...

Why did he make the comment before the broncos game about not changing o-coordinators even if we lose?
-odd time to make those comments

Why did Harrison make the comments about Ben that he did?
-Does anyone think James is about money or stats. James is a tough player who wants to win.

Ben was along for the ride in 2005.
-Ben was average at best and a game manager in 2004 and 2005, especially in the SB.

Ben was the reason for every loss in 2008 the SB year.
-It was documented that the defense told him just not to turn the ball over. He played terrible vs the colts, eagles, and giants.

Ben was the reason we lost the SB last year.
-2 picks and losing the turn over battle by 3 but to lose the game by less that a td . How do you defend a team that has an unreal offense, you keep that offense off the field not try to outduel the QB who is the best in the game right now.

Ben needs to learn how to be a professional in this league and not rely on just extending the play. Its time a coach takes control and he listens or sits. No if, ands, or buts about it.

Our offensive line hasn''r been the best, but with him running around all day it makes it tough for anyone to block for him. Our run game was great against Denver in the playoffs but we abandoned it and ended up in a shoot out.

Steeler back up qbs are 4-1 in the last 2 seasons, so its not all Ben.
