Are our first bunch of plays scripted?

Anyone know if our first several series of plays are scripted? I know a few years ago this was a common practice. The reason I ask is that lately the Steelers have been doing pretty well at the beginning of games (a good game plan), and then fall flat. I don't know if this dropoff is motivational or the opponents are adapting (we don't adapt, or we adapt badly). Maybe they should script the whole game.

I'm *pretty sure* the first several plays are scripted, to what extent I don't know. I think you nailed it, though. We have all week or longer to develop a game plan, but don't seem to be really adept at making necessary adjustments on the fly. I will say that it's appeared that way to me for a while.

    Ha!

"Let's see... So then we'll have Foster get beat on the inside and have Ben get sacked, but should he fumble this one? No, have him hang onto that one. Let's make it... minus 6 yards. That was third down, wasn't it, so we'll kick a field goal. It's under 40, so Suisham will make it."

"Okay, where were we... There's 9:43 left in the 3rd, and it's time for Pouncey to get hurt. Legs is already out, so we'll put Trai in at Center. Shoot, I forgot we wanted to have Kemo hurt his knee in the 4th. Can J. Scott play guard? Go ask him."

    They might as well.

    :roflmao:

Presumably Scott replies: "Can I get caught holding every other play at guard as well? Then I'm in!"

Another script, or rather a transcript of Ben in the huddle:

"Ok, it's third and two, and I got the play over the headset, but it was a running play, and I don't want to do that. So, wide receivers, five wide and go deep. When the pocket collapses after .5 seconds, I'll scramble around and get sacked. And for goodness sake, when I fumble, please someone fall on it. I don't want this to look like it is my fault. Then we'll do it all again next down and be sure we are out of field goal range."

At least that is what is seems like sometimes.

Will Matt Canada script the first several plays?

    I’m guessing heavy with Najee.

A couple throws to PF and DJ.

Nope. Mitch will go out there in a no huddle calling plays from his North Carolina playbook.

My biggest issue with tomlin. If the gameplan ain't working he can't or won't adapt.

I believe the first ten plays or so are scripted or at least that’s what has been eluded to by the coaching staff over the years.

I read this without checking the date and got severely confused by a TTF and HugeSnack sighting in one thread.

I’m not sure that the scripting of plays means that the first 10-20 plays are played in a particular order. I think it’s more that the team practices a certain group of plays repeatedly so that there’s a “script” of the offensive game plan, and then those plays are called in a rough sequential order depending on down and distance.

If this thread has taught me anything it’s that the Steelers are still awful at in game adjustments as 2011. I suppose their is a common denominator however

Same as I've heard, also I've never heard of a modern NFL team not scripting the 1st ten , or more plays. Of course many things could happen in that time ,and make You have 2 throw that stuff away.
