It seems like there's something to this after all. Ben is a selfish idiot. He wants so badly to launch the ball 50 yards down field for no other reason than to make it on the highlight reels. He's being more efficient than ever, and throwing less picks than ever, yet that's just not good enough. On top of that, being unhappy with the dink and dunk playcalling isn't enough, he needs to run his fat gums yet again to the media about it. He can't just shut his mouth and do his ****ing job. God I hate this egotistical piece of garbage. He brings nothing but unwanted and unneeded drama to this team and he has for a long time now. The guy is a self-absorbed prick and I can't wait for the post-Ben years. We'll get another QB once he goes. The game has changed, it's not the 80's anymore, there's far more QB's out there these days that can play.

But I'm sure the usual Ben defenders will say this is a nothing story. Apparently it doesn't matter that he's always running his mouth, always creating drama. No wonder this team is a mess, it starts with Ben. I would love for the Rooney's to trade him in the off-season.

    There IS a storm brewing

This article in the PTR is pretty revealing. Ben calls Haley's offense "dink and dunk" and puts the blame on him for not calling for more home-run plays. I'm not trying to make a mountain out of a molehill guys, but Todd Haley does not have the temperament to just let this stuff roll off his back. When you take these remarks along with the remarks earlier this season in which Ben said he used hand signals from BA's playbook and that he talks with BA at least once a week, I think there is a storm of hurricane like proportions starting to brew.

I agree, and it appears it's been going on the entire time now, it's simply been relatively quiet as far as the media concerned. Like always though, Ben can't keep quiet for long. He can't discuss issues with his coaches, his solution is always to go the media.

I'm so sick of Ben and his BS. It's one thing after another with that guy. He doesn't know how to be a professional. If he doesn't get his way, he becomes a baby and cries to the media about it. Tomlin appparently has no control whatsoever over this team and Ben has no filter on his fat gums. This team is doomed.

I think Ben is a little on the passive-aggressive side. He'll make subtle comments designed to belittle someone and then back up when he is directly confronted about it. Just my take.

I don't know. Seems like Starkey looking for something. Pressing Ben (probably because he knows Ben can't shut up) for something that just may not be there.

And is "dink and dunk" a bad thing anyway?

And what is Ben supposed to say when asked about why they didn't go back to another quick strike? If he says something other than what he said, that could easily taken as a slight against Haley.

I don't think any OC would take the terminology "dink and dunk" as a compliment. Ben's subtle about his insults, but they are insults nonetheless.

If this were FB, I'd like your post. When people look for something hard enough, they'll find it. This is an angle that certain media outlets have tried like hell to make work. Certain fans eagerly lap it up. I'm not the only one who thinks this story line is comical.

It may not have manifested itself at this point, but I really don't think Haley has the kind of disposition that takes subtle insults well. Maybe he's trying to be on his best behavior for the Rooneys or whatever, but these subtle digs that Ben wants to continue to deliver, IMO, are not sitting well with Haley. Maybe I'm wrong, but when Ben says he uses hand signals from BA's playbook, that he still talks to BA once a week (maybe about Haley?), calls Haley's playbook dink and dunk and then points the finger at him on the lack of the Steelers big play play-calling. Haley is a volatile guy. Do you really think that none of this is bothering him?

Does it really matter if Ben and Haley are openly butting heads? It doesn't even matter if they haven't ever butted heads. The point is Ben is making these stupid comments all the time and it will result in problems. At the very least, he's not happy with the playcalling (which is evident by his comments) and his solution is to reveal that to the media instead of going to the coaches. I know if I was a player on the Steelers, this garbage would drive me nuts.

Who cares that the media is pressing for these answers, did I miss where Ben was required by law to reveal this stuff? Like someone else said, Ben is passive aggressive and he knows damn well what he's doing. He's pouting, like he always has. He's a baby and can't stand when he doesn''t get his way. We all know he wants to throw 50 yards down field, to hell with the efficiency of such plays. As long as Ben gets on the highlight reels, he's happy.

    Really?

I think the fans take more offense than the coaches.

It is what it is and if its D 'n D then so be it.

Maybe nickel and dime would be better?[/quote:1diflb84]

Come on BB, when dink and dunk is used it's generally not used in flattering terms.[/quote:1diflb84]

To the fans it isn't flattering. Has anyone asked a coach?

It's been reported a couple times now that Ben does this on purpose, or as how one reporter put it "having fun with the fans". Because trust me, the only ones getting upset over this is people on this message board and others. Theres no dissention coming from the locker room, no fights between Haley and Ben as TTF showed with the tweets he posted, this stuff is absurd but it will carry on until Ben retires. Then we'll shuffle through hack QB's for years and then the Ben haters can sit on their couches all smug and happy how Ben is gone while waching a decade of futility but hey, Ben will be gone

I'm certainly not a Ben hater and I remember the hack QBs of the 80s and 90s, but I do think Ben either speaks before he thinks OR he has passive aggressive tendencies and likes to be edgy with some of his comments. The media may provoke some of that, but Ben doesn't need to subtly insult his OC and that's exactly what he did. Haley is a powder keg at times (see Todd Haley - You Tube) and Ben likes to give off sparks. If the Steelers really start to fall apart the second half of the season, expect a confrontation.

Yes, like always, it's just us on this site that make this stuff up. It's only us, and many of the experts in the industry, including Ross Tucker, Adam Shine, Rich Gannon, Pat Kerwin and Tim Ryan, all of whom have made comments about Ben and this very issue. Nobody is saying there is or has been an issue between Haley and Ben, but there's going to be one if Ben keeps running his mouth all the time. He's not doing it to have fun with the fans, and if he was, that would be even worse. Purposely bringing negative attention to the team just to screw with fans, yeah, that's real professional.

Ben is an idiot, and it's not the 80's anymore, we won't be waiting 20 years for our next QB.
