I just feel that having a top line receiver is more important then the return game. If Archer is good at it, I'd rather he take over the responsibility.

Also, AB tends to fair catch quite a bit when he doesn't have to.

That's probably my biggest issue with Brown on punt return duty. While we've seen him do a lot with his time back there, I still feel he makes some bad decisions. Like fair catching what he shouldn't, or fielding a punt in a crowd close to the goaline and trying to run it. But, I have never fielded punts before, I imagine it must be difficult to keep an eye on both the ball and the guys charging down the field.

    From Ed Bouchette's blog:

"Rookie Dri Archer, the team’s third-round draft pick, missed both practices this week. He was sent home on Tuesday because he was sick, but then turned up for the NFL Players Association Rookie Premier event that began Wednesday in Los Angeles.

--- And that news item leads to this: Yes, these spring practices are voluntary, but what is Archer thinking? He’s in Los Angeles for the Rookie Premier gala with all the media attention that goes with it? That means he will miss his first three practices of 10 permitted in the spring with his new teammates. You would think he would want to start learning an offense in which he supposedly will be so much a part of in 2014, especially all the different positions in which they plan to use him."

He has to attend the Premier per the CBA.

Reading that now. It seemed fishy to me. Thanks for the heads up.

I guess I expect too much to think that someone who follows the Steelers FOR A LIVING knows what they are talking about.

This is my shocked face that Ed Bouchette made an ass out of himself.

So was Archer the only rookie from our team invited? If so, why?

CBA requires one per team. Archer was our chosen rep.

Ah, thanks. Sounds like he deserves congratulations for being chosen, as well as sympathy for being forced to miss practices I'm sure he'd rather attend. But an article questioning his intelligence and attacking his dedication to the team is just as good.

I know this is real mature but there is a reason he is called Douchette.

Was that because he was too sick to practice anyway, or did they decide ages ago, I wonder?

    (Not that it really matters)

35 Players were invited. To my knowledge, the invitations are determined by the NFLPA's marketing and sponsorship partners. There are no "per team" requirements. Packers, Patriots, Texans and Titans all had more than one player attending.

Why cant they schedule this thing when OTA's are not happening? These rookies need to be a sponge and soak up as much as they can, they shouldn't be forced to miss any practice time. The college rule is another one that ticks me off.

BINGO ! yes to all of that .. top receiver more imp than a great Return game... archer take over.. AB fair catches more than he should but going back to the fact a great WR is more import than getting 5 yards on a punt return im glad he does FC a little too much (better safe then sorry and lose him for a season on a punt return)

I think the NFL moving the draft back 2 weeks had something to do with it interfering with the OTAs.
