I'm thankful that they aren't replaying the hit over and over on TV. I've seen that done so many times when it wasn't at all appropriate.

I heard they took him to UC...it's their best trauma center..

    UC Health Trauma Care
The Region’s Highest Level of Trauma Care
We are the region’s only verified Adult Level I Trauma Center. That means the right mix of specialists and medical resources the patient needs is available at a moment’s notice. The team is already here at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center 24/7 — not “on their way” — which gives our patients the best chance of survival.

    Why?

From every talking head I've seen, from what all the reports are, why bother having football any longer. I agree with the decision to postpone but is it any better 24 hours from now, 5 days from now, or ever?

Allowing people to be exposed to workplace hazards is illegal, so seeing this, it's a fair question to ask. The same thing could happen to another player again tomorrow and then on Saturday and Sunday and next week.

This type of event changes everything forever.

I'm sorry bud, it was not directed towards you. I thought about that after I posted it and should have said I give them credit for doing the best they can with the situation.

Let's relax just a bit. Just my opinion here, and I am speculating. But this certainly seems like something that might have been pre-exsisting. This didn't appear to be related to the hit. Time will tell but it seems to be a freak thing that happened here. Lets get some more info before we go ending football all together.

Again, like I said, what changes tomorrow, this weekend or next week.

You can't postpone a game for something like this and then pretend everything is fine in hours, days or weeks.

A majority of people won't have the guts to say that. I can only imagine what their motivations are.

Someone sang a song about you, "Were you born an a$$hole, or did you work at it your whole life?"
You just happened to pick this moment to call Bengals players dirty and looking to maim someone? Really? You think anyone believes that bull shiite?

This seems to be more of a freak accident. That can happen in just about any occupation. You can't just stop everyone from working, no matter the industry.

This is not the first time NFL players have died due to injuries. It has only happened 2 or 3 times, but it has happened. Football didn't end then.

I'm not more interested in entertainment than player safety by any means, but again, this appears to be a freak accident an/or a pre-existing condition. It is truly horrible no matter what.

.. Really? maybe we should just cancel all sports then  I remember watching a boxing match on live tv in the early 80's where a boxer was killed in the ring,.... There is no reason to over react.. Because a accident happened

Man, life goes on. I don't personally know anyone here, but I think I can type with a degree of certainty that all of us has suffered some sort of personal loss. Eventually, you have to get back to life, work and other commitments. As far as we know, he's in critical condition in a trauma center and again, quoting someone else, let's all pray he walks out of there on his own.

Like someone touched on, this appeared to be a freak incident. It could have happened in practice, while he was working with a personal trainer or in a pick-up basketball game.

I know all about work related accidents and fatalities, I've spent over 3 decades in a profession dealing with just those things.

Yes, people die in all occupations, but following those deaths, there are significant changes to professions. This is entertainment, it's not like it is necessary. While possible, given his years of playing football and several physical examinations, it's hard to think this was just a freak thing. Hank Gathers died with a condition, but he knew it and was advised not to play and went against medical advice.

Like I said, the talking heads can't say what they're saying tonight and be genuine allowing this to go forward. I can only imagine what they're (or anyone else's) motivations are.

That was Duk Koo Kim that was killed by Ray Mancini. It happened in the 13th round and after that all title fights were reduced from 15 to 12 rounds. Kim after being knocked down got up and nodded to the ref that he was OK but then collapsed and died before the fight resumed.

Pre-existing doesn't always mean pre-existing long term. You can have a healthy heart today but tomorrow you wake up and now you have a chronic heart issue.

So that makes it okay. If it's not a big deal, why postpone the game. You can't postpone the game and then pretend everything is okay in a few hours or days.

That's the point, it's hypocrtical to cancel the game and then just go back to doing the same thing.

I wonder if the NFL might issue an equipment improvement after this. Maybe something like a catchers chest protector under the shoulder pads. I don't know I'm just kind of spitballing here trying to think about how this could be prevented from happening again.

There aren't always significant changes. Sometimes the nature of a death is such that there's just nothing you can do to prevent it. It sounds cruel, but we can't prevent every death. It's part of life.

Anytime we do anything or go anywhere, there's a risk of dying. I believe this is only the 2nd time an NFL player has died during a game, so death is very, very rare. You are far more likely to die driving to your favourite restaurant.

You questioning motivations doesn't make you superior to anyone. I'll tell you what the motivations are, it's money, entertainment, sport, etc. and there's nothing wrong with that at all. I have no problem admitting that I am entertained by guys beating the hell out of each other in the name of sport. I'm not the only one. if you are no longer entertained by football, then don't watch.

What changes tomorrow or a week from now? Nothing. As with any tragedy, you accept and find a way to move on. No amount of time can take it away
