Oddly enough, I've never owned or operated a leaf blower. I'm not sure why. Before anyone asks- I'm not Amish, but I do own and frequently use a scythe.

I have an itch to go re-watch T2 now.

You are the grim reaper. LOL. Actually, I live on the farm that has been in our family for 100yrs or so and the oldest barn still has some of their old scythes in it. We call them "briar blades" but pronounce it "brar blade". I've messed around with them when I was younger and they are a MAJOR pain to use. Also I used to watch T2 like crazy. It still holds up too.

I can't stand raking. One of these days I'm going to chop down every one of my trees and replace with artificial ones.

Or move to a tropical island where I don't have to rake.

Yeah, I tried that. But without a huge bag you have to empty after every pass.

Oh I thought they just chopped them up ya know? Just out of curiosity, do you guys live in like a subdivision or something where they actually make you keep leaves out of your yards? Or can you just not stand to look at a mess?

While I don't think there's any code violations if I don't rake, it's not very neighborly to be the unkempt yard on the block. My lawn already looks bad because I don't have sprinklers and have mostly weeds (at least I mow the weeds). I know it's really small potatoes in the grand scheme of life, but it's annoying when you have to rake every darn weekend for about 7 weeks straight. I raked on Veteran's Day and by Wednesday evening it looked like I didn't do anything at all. And a solid 75% or more leaves are still on the trees.

Well I have the advantage of living on a 40 acre farm in the country and don't have to worry about things like that. A lot of what I live on is actually fields and what trees we do have are away from the house. We used to have some woods that were really fun to play in buy my mamaw and papaw had them logged out. Leaves just get in our driveway during the fall but I don't even really pay attention to them. Most of the leaves are gone here though. It's been a REALLY cold fall actually. The other day I was looking at one of the maple trees and the leaves were literally red and I was enjoying looking at it and this morning when I was leaving for church I noticed that it was already completely barren now.

Mine's really easy to use. I tried using one of the old ones you see hanging in barns, and to heck with that. I got mine 7 or 8 years ago from an outfit down your way.

If I got a leaf blower, what would I have the kids do with their rakes? Idle hands and all that...:innocent:

Yeah man those old school scythes really make you feel sorry for the people that farmed in the old days. I've not raked in forEVER. I used to rake for my papaw after he would mow and I would just pile the grass up and get it out of the yard and he'd pay me for it. Then I got smart and realized that was useless. LOL.

I have 3 girls. Well, only one is still home. But even when all of them lived here, they did not help at ALL with any type of yard work. Not the Princesses!

I have a larger yard, but it's still just a yard, not acreage. But on my lot, I have 7 trees and 2 bushes that somehow also shed leaves. If I didn't blow away / rake them up, I'd have no grass. Hey, wait a second...

I just got one not too long ago and now I'm like, dude, what was I thinking with the rake! Go get a blower, pronto.

I have to clear the leaves about every two days, otherwise, my dogs poop gets hidden and eventually they step in it, then track it in the house. I'd rather clear leaves than have poop in the house, especially if they have jumped up onto furniture
