A good defense that gave up 45 points to Blake Bortles.... not buying it. They had good individual players... and even put together a statistically good season. But they failed when it mattered the most. It wasn't a perfect game, but Ben threw for 469 yards and threw 5 TD's. He had one INT and one fumble... but yeah. 5 TD's only 2 turnovers with 42 points should have been enough to win that game. It wasn't. Shazier doesn't get injured and we likely win that game (we'd lose to the Pats again because Tomlin was self-checked against Belichick, but that is beside the point).

Butler was so bad as DC...So many defensive breakdown because of poor communication and how many time the steelers had only 10 men on the field on defense?

Jumping in on the conversation...all you really need to look at is the 2 defenses that played that day. The Steelers put up 42pts on THAT defense? And with turnovers. Very impressive.

Blake Bortles did not beat us that day. We got severely ran over by the Jags power run game. Just could not stop it. Less than impressive.

Bortles had 214 passing yards on 26 passing attempts after having 87 passing yards on 23 pass attempts in the wild card round....He had also some big run for a first down too

yes, he was. LeBeau left and it all fell to pieces. Now - certain HOF players left too.

but still, 2017, we were better , had good personnel.

and 2014 season - that crap playoff game, in Pittsburgh, Ratbirds visiting. Crapped ourselves that night too.

just unacceptable, time and time again.

they were a weak team that year, the Ravens.

OK. Those 214 yards did not beat us. I already posted we lost to the run game. Are you agreeing, disagreeing, or just pointing out numbers?

yep - got gouged by For....whatever the RB name was + turnovers early. too big a hole to dig out of - a disgrace.

and Bortles too gashed us running.

Int on our 2nd possession the a fumble that gets returned for a TD. You can say that was 14pts the wrong way. We got ran over because we had VW and Sean Spence at ILB with Sean Davis and Mike Mitchell in Safety roles. Our front 5 was solid but behind them was not good.
Basically, the Jags scored 6TDs and we scored 5TDs with a FG. Maybe without those turnovers we eke out a win. Who knows?

Can’t win without defense. Tom Terrific carved LeBeau’s zone coverage 3-4 to pieces.

Would you say the same about Belichek? It would appear he could not even muster a .500 season without the fabulous one. In other words, any coach will suffer when they lose a HOF quarterback. Andy Reid wasn’t splitting the Atom before Pat got there.

It was not the only reason but when you gave up 214 passing yards on only 26 pass attempts, and you have no sack and no turnovers, this is a below average game for the pass defense especially against a bad QB.It was a factor too

With a average game by our defense, this is a win even with the 2 turnovers on offense....Of course the play calling by Todd Haley in some occasion did not help too.The offense had no margin for error, no way that's a recipe for success when you have to attempt 58 passes against the number 1 pass defense that was also top 3 in sacks.

Brady was still not Brady in the first 2 super bowl by the pats...In 2001,in the final 8 games, including the playoffs the pats were 8-0 but Brady had only 3 TD pass in those games...He was not that great in 2003 too.Reid was winning like 60% of the time before the Mahomes era,the only thing he was missing was a super bowl.He was very close to be in the HOF in the first 19 years

Great coaches are very important but we can't ask them to do miracles too, it's not realistic

Yeah, and we had a defense minded head coach. Where’s the D?

Yup, couldn't figure how to defend Brady's crossing routes or his TE. By TE, I mean the Polish dude at that time before anyone got confused.

Lot of bad picks on D during that time.....Jarvis Jones, T. Edmunds to name a few.
Both of those were 1st round waste.

The reality is that we sometimes were the victim of Ben’s gunslinging mentality. While this worked to our advantage in many games, there were also inopportune times where it didn’t.

The defense certainly could have done more in the Jags playoff game, but as was mentioned earlier, we spotted the Jags 14 points in the first quarter. They had some success running the ball and playing prevent on defense to chew up the clock. No one on the Jags offense had gaudy stats that day (leading rusher - 109 yards; Bortles with 214 yard which included a 45 yard pass in poor coverage).

In many ways, our offense repeated the Jaguars debacle in the 2020 Cleveland Playoff Game. First quarter and Pouncy snaps one out of the end zone (7 points Cle). To make matters worse, Ben threw 4 picks that game.

The stats tell a part of the story and watching the game told another. Tomlin and co. didn’t have a good game plan and got out coached by the same team for the second time that season. The only reason it was close and we had a hope was because Ben decided to just start airing it out. It almost worked.

All that and two dagger turnovers had us on our heels until late in the 4th.

As great as it was to have Ben for all of those years, the dude was ALWAYS good for 1-3 maddening picks a game FAR too often.
