Anybody concerned about our ability to develop the offensive lineman and even where to place gut s positionally to succeed?

Neither Broderick Jones or Fautanu looked that great. If we can’t develop these guys in pass protection it’s really going to implode this season. Still not sure why we are not just keeping Jones at RT. He came in green with very little experience at the college level at LT where as Fautanu had a boat load of experience playing LT in college. To me it seems that it would make sense to keep Fautanu at LT and Jones at RT where he has developed some pro experience.

If both of these guys struggle this year it says a lot about the coaching.

It was really hard to tell with everyone going in and out of the game. I can't believe that Herbig will be starting the season at center, I think Tomlin just gave him the start because he was a veteran. McCormick, Frazier and Anderson all looked good last night so we do have a lot of depth and most of it really young guys.

You can not get rid of a malignant problem by continuing to add more cures that don't cure the cancer. Until the Steelers realize they need new eyes and leadership to run this team, they will continue to shovel **** against the tide WITH the gems they happen to have. The gems get stuck in the **** in that process and then everything is full of ****. Until Mike Tomlin is replaced, the Steelers will never compete for a title. This is a reality everyone needs to understand. The tragedy in that is the people who can make that decision are the most delusional about it.

The team looked ill prepared, sloppy and unmotivated. Like they have for years now. Now, I can handle sloppy and I can handle bad play from camp fodder, but even the good players who actually played well couldn't cure the total **** game plan that was implemented.

Say what you will about rookie status, but I don't see how Moore Jr/Seumalo/Herbig/Daniels/Jones >> Jones/Saumalo/Frazier/Daniels/Fautano.

If they start the season with the former, they're overthinking it. Let these guys develop in positions you want them in and against the competition level they'll be facing. The vets ahead of them here aren't giving them anything significant in terms of added performance return.

I think the over reaction is hilarious. There was not cohesion for sure, but the guys were in and out all game, Fautanu got down field on a couple of run plays, McCormick and Frazier on one on ones looked like bulldogs. It will come together, we are one week into camp, geez.

That's what I'm saying. They drafted Jones, Fautanu and Frazier because they felt they were better than what they had. So why not play them? This bullsh!t of constantly starting guys just because they're veterans drives me bananas.

I've been saying it for years... Pay Meyer needs to go.

I can't seem to remember any O-Lineman that improved under Pat Meyer. They always seem to get better as soon as they Leave Pat Meyer.

Can't wait to see Chuks play LT this year. Munch's O-line plans for Chuks was always for him to play LT; it is a shame Chuks only had 1 season with Munch.

“Chuks, we drafted that guy for that reason,” Munchak said last week. “Now the young guy gets a chance kind of like Al (Villanueva) a few years ago

It was the Steelers first preseason game with a new offensive coordinator, all new QBs, and some new pieces on the Oline against a Texans team playing their #1s in their 2nd preseason game. They aren't specifically game planning for this game. They are running plays and seeingg what works, doesn't work, if players are aligning properly and doing what they are supposed to be doing. I'm not sure what you are expecting?

My concern, is that they are playing these Olineman all over and not allowing them to get comfortable in a specific position (i.e. Jones at LT and Fauntanu at RT, and our 2nd round center who has been playing the position all through college and not having him the starting Center already). How is the lineman supposed to get comfortable, comfortable with the guy next to him, and build cohesion.

Been hearing this tweaking excuse for a decade now. I’m not buying it. Steelers have the most difficult second half of the season, schedule wise, I’ve ever seen. If Fields is the QB, the Steelers will be out of the playoffs by week 12. If Wilson is on this team, there is a small chance they may go 3-5 to finish the last 8 games of the season. Either way, the Steelers are going to be horrendous this season and likely finally go under .500 for the first time since 2003.

I'm not sure what Tomlin hates more, playing rookies, or going for it on 4th downs? The Steelers are going nowhere until that bum is gone, might as well face it fellows

For all the jubilation in the preseason last year with the offense that amounted to absolutely nothing, why does anyone think this means anything at all? These are scrimmages. There is actually 0 correlation between preseason success and regular season success.

We have 3 young guys that look to be a big part of this OL in Jones, Fautanu, and Frazier. They will be fine. Who cares if they got beat up a bit in a scrimmage. The ONLY thing that is frustrating is that we are playing folks out of position in camp. Jones should be LT and should be competing against Moore. If Fautanu isn't ready to be on an NFL field at all THEN you can play him at RT. It does us no good to cater to a guy (Moore) who we have 0 financial ties to after the season. Aside from that, these guys are putting in the work. Trying to get better. Not every rep is going to be a banger. Danielle Hunter is pretty good. I think we need to relax a bit.

To be fair, the playcalling we saw in Preseason was not what we got once the season started.

Maybe we should be asking questions about Meyer and why it takes ten weeks into regular season to get production from this group?

It's pretty much a known fact that offense is behind the defense early in the season. What you should be encouraged by is the Steelers running game and the 100 yards it generated against a top 10 rush defense from last season.
The passing game has kinks that need worked out. Remember, a wise coach once said; "there are 3 things that can happen on a pass, and 2 of them are bad".

Having said these things, it sure doesn't look to me like Fields is much different than what he showed last season. The offense can only go as far as the QB can take them.
Hot take after one preseason game; don't be shocked if Allen passes up Fields on the depth chart if Fields continues with negative plays. This is a shoo-in for the Tomlin doghouse.

maybe because up to this point pat meyer was coaching to a matt canada offense. his unit did improve. canada got fired. meyer has had a week of live fire with at least 3 new rookies and a 2nd year guy that blocked well in his system last year when the group improved and canada was fired. geeeez. one preseason game and we are firing people. give it a rest already. the texans are a playoff team of vets in their 2nd game. we are green at this point. we were not going to dominate them in this game. we held up pretty good though, but made some fixable mistakes.

It was pretty watered down on both sides since it was a scrimmage. Kenny didn't fail because of play-calling, it was how he performed. Canada sucked, but I think it is a bit of an overreaction to say that Canada called great plays in the preseason and then started calling bad games in the regular season. He called bad games all the time because he was a bad coordinator.

I have faith that Smith will do a lot better in the playcalling department once the games mean something.
