This was a bad injury to a guy who I really liked in the pre season (always seemed to be around the ball). Anyone know how his surgery went, how he's healing etc. I know it's way too early to have healed and who knows if he will ever be the same but I was just wondering.

I don't know a whole lot about his expected recovery timeline, but there was just some news on him last week. He was in the locker room talking with reporters, basically saying that he's walking around and rehabbing. He hopes to make it back by training camp.

Unlike rookie guard David DeCastro, rookie linebacker Sean Spence has no chance of playing this year. His grotesque knee injury was so severe that he’s hoping to be ready for training camp next season.

“It’s been tough, especially since this is the first time I’ve ever had to go through surgery,” said Spence, a third-round pick in this year’s draft. “So I’m just taking it day by day. I’m getting better week by week.”

Spence, who would have helped on special teams, suffered two torn ligaments and a dislocated kneecap in the final preseason game on Aug. 30. He was placed on injured reserve the next day.

Since his major knee reconstruction, Spence has been rehabbing at team headquarters but still walks with a limp. He said he doesn’t know when he’ll be given the OK to run again but he is able to drive a car.

Sounds like his injury is a slightly more minor version of what happened to Lattimore. Definitely a very serious injury that could have lasting effects. I'm just hoping he's the same player moving forward.

after watching mcgahee return after his, against OSU in the national championship game in what 2000, when we have advanced in medicine since then, and he had a good career. that was one of the ugliest i can remember seeing in a long time. the old catcher for the pirates had an ugly ankle mishap running to first. Oh God , i just got a cold chill. thiesman's break was bad.

I saw the Lattimore live on TV...one of the very worst I have ever seen on a football field.

Me too. My first thought was that his career was over instantly. Somehow there were no broken bones, so he should be able to return to play eventually. May not be able to enter the NFL draft until 2015 now though. He's gotta build his draft stock back up.

That's the worst injury I've seen since I saw the Joe Theismann injury on live TV in 85.

I have never in my life seen someone sustain injury to that extent. That was devastating

I had high hopes for this kid.

Hopeful he comes back in 2013 and makes a huge impact

I was soooo looking forward to seeing him this year. I am hopeful he comes back next year and replaces Taz.. I know people dont want to believe he can but he has good ball hawking skills and is incredibly fast to close

worst part he loses a year of playing in this defense. he should have some new competition by then too. i hope he heals quickly, i know he's a good player. we sure could have used him this year. i'm afraid SS is gone. that experiment should be over.

Moises Alou's ankle going one way while his body went in 180 degrees the other way was pretty freaking awful.

You're saying Spence is going to replace Troy?

I am not saying anything but right now as it stands given our personnel I would say he is the best candidate to replace Troy and yes I believe the organization had him in mind..
