Did anyone else have the worst heart-sickening feeling when they flashed to his eyes when he hit the ground? In all the years I have watched the NFL, I have never had that sick feeling. I hope I am wrong but the five minutes that followed that hit looked like very serious damage. His hands were cramped, he couldn't stand straight, he thought it was still the seventh inning.

    Prayers for him!

Wow. If that is true we will have to see what Hodges can do over the next few weeks. Who would have thought at the beginning of the season that our 2 QB'S going forward were Ducky Hodges and Paxton Lynch.

Rudolph most likely won't be eligible to play until after the bye vs. Dolphins. NFL has strict rules on concussions.

Who said that and on what are they basing it? If he was able to participate in meetings the next day, the severity of the concussion may not be what people thought it was. If the concussion was so severe that he wouldn't even be evaluated for a few weeks, there is no way he would have been at meetings the next day. He has to be asymptomatic for a week, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if he is good to go for the Dolphins game.

Why you ask? Hello, I live among the Eagle faithful. I remember your promise not to sweat it because the Cowgirls will win the division. Well my Texas friend take at look at the standings. You do realize I'm holding you responsible for the **** I'll have to take.:)

It looked like a hit that Wilbur Marshall put on Joe Ferguson years ago. Just ugly.

OK, I have a little knowledge of Mason's status. How may you ask? Remember, I live very close to Rock Hill. Things get around. Friends actually are very close to the family.

Well, I have a first hand connection to his family. I can tell you that his family was not at the game Sunday but were watching at home. Of course, they were really upset watching this on TV. Their report, as of today, to my contact is that Mason does not have a concussion. He is fine. It appears to them (his parents) that it will be a coaches decision if he plays or not. Nothing was mentioned about any protocols involving being knocked out. If he had a concussion, things would be different, but according to my source that has contact with his family, is that he does not have a concussion.

My inclination here is that he will not start. He will probably dress but will not play but that is just a guess on my part. He will be there in case of emergency. Again, just a guess by me. As someone else in the thread said, they will keep him out this week and let him recover thru the bye week and then play against Miami. I was told his parents and some other family members will be in attendance for the Miami game.

The good news is that he does not have a concussion and is doing very well with no real aftereffects at this time. So, this jives a bit with the reports of him being at the Steeler compound on Monday looking fine.

He's gonna be out for a while. I doubt the NFL lets him play again in a week or two like other guys who only lose consciousness for a few seconds. Dude was laid out on the ground for a minute plus looking like he might have been permanently damaged. IMO he would be crazy to play again this year. That was one of the scariest injuries I've ever seen in sports. Dude looked like he might have died on the field. The concussion was so serious that his arm was sticking out the side of his body. And then he could barely walk off the field. This was the most severe concussion someone could get.

This could be a potentially career ending injury. The brain isn't built to take anymore hits like that one and continue functioning normally.

The guy lost consciousness while on his feet, collapsed to the ground like he was dead, then laid out on the floor for what seemed like a few minutes paralyzed. Then he had to be helped off the field by his teammates incapable of walking on his power.

Ya'll are insane if you think he's coming back anytime soon. Get ready for the Devlin Hodges show. He'll be the Steelers starting QB for the foreseeable future.

Rudolph will be lucky to play again this season.

    This sounds right.

I doubt Rudolph is back this season. That was as brutal a conscious as I've ever seen. Potentially career ending.

LOL. Did you see the video of the injury? I've been watching football since 1997 and have never seen something like it. First time in my life I seriously feared that I might have seen a player DIE on the field. It was that scary.

There's zero chance Mason Rudolph will be playing anytime soon. Even if he's a medical wonder and that hit didn't leave him with some serious brain injury that will impact him for the rest of his life, the NFL will still make sure he doesn't see the field anytime soon cause they don't want people to think they don't take concussions seriously. Most concussions are difficult to tell. That one was easy for everyone to see. It was exceptionally brutal.

Like I've said multiple times already in this thread, Mason Rudolph will be lucky to see the field again this season. I got a feeling he will be held out until next year.

Your source is wrong. Rudolph was unconscious. He is in the league’s concussion protocol. He suffered a concussion. It may have been minor and he may be asymptomatic, but it was a concussion.

Thank for this info. Based on your inside knowledge it does sound plausible that he was KOd. but didn’t actually get concussed. It’s like a boxer getting hit on the jaw. KO but not necessarily a concussion. I feel the blow he received hitting his head on the turf may have been the more damaging blow and a likely cause of a concussion if he had indeed received one to begin with. Wishing MR a full and speedy recovery.

Edit :Easy to see I’m not a DR:shrug: didn’t know KO was a actual concussion as well.

That seems too short. I'm guessing that the most optimistic timeline. I'll be shocked if he's back before 6-8 weeks.

    Edit:
Good info here. Sounds like he was concussed based on the DRs thoughts.....

Double edit:smiley1:. Didn’t realize a loss of consciousness was necessarily a concussion. I stand corrected after some research.

Seems to be conflicting reports...basically opposite reports.
Mason's arms going stiff is the dead giveaway of a concussion. If he was barefoot, we would've seen his toes were curled. Concussions can be seen in MMA fighting all the time. There were multiple KO's/concussions Saturday night in UFC 243.
